People should look up and learn about things like NI contributions when they decide to start a buisness, there should be free courses for this IMHO, 5 years ago the economy was growing and no one could see the down turn, he should have saved but like most of the population he dosnt have enough saved to survive for 2 months without wages.
If he had the required NI contributions then he could have claimed CBJSA, I personally believe that peoples full NI record should be looked at for any contribution based benefits or a bigger time frame such as having 4 years full NI contributions out of the last 5 years would be a fairer system but it still wouldnt help your OH in this situation.

I am not saying I/we SHOULD qualify for benefits; just making a remark.

Believe me I would have been happy to save 'x' per week/month to assist in the long run but it was not feasible and money was very tight for the business. Hence why it was sold on so can walk away before it got any worse.People should look up and learn about things like NI contributions when they decide to start a buisness, there should be free courses for this IMHO, 5 years ago the economy was growing and no one could see the down turn, he should have saved but like most of the population he dosnt have enough saved to survive for 2 months without wages.

Most people havnt saved enough leicsmarkyr, why should anyone when finance was very easy to obtain and easy to pay off?
We could ALL have saved more and be more prepared but didnt, it was a new century disease and we could all have done more if we had a magic mirror to see the future.

My ex and I started a business 5 years ago and both then and every year after until we closed it we were offered loads of free courses on everything to do with tax,NI,employees etc-we were also bombarded with official handbooks,cd-roms and dvds,so if you are registered at Companies House all this stuff is out there for you.
Thank you SuziQ, I didnt know that and I`m sure some others didn`t either and it may come in useful in the future for some.
