..and you got polite and civil reponses until you made the remark about splitting up so he could claim state benefits. I am not currently working (full time mum and student) but my dh who is on half of what you are earning does not grumble about supporting his family. It is what partners/families do support one another. Once I am qualified, the shoe will be on the other foot as I will go out to work and my dh will be able to go to college etc.

Darn it, you beat me! :D
  • I am saying saying my partner will soon be my ex. All I am stating is that he would be better off.

I have paid taxes for a long time now and very rare use anything related to it: dont use schools, the police, the fire service, rarely the NHS; in fact have private health cover so dont need NHS.
You will find it is very rare that a single person living alone will be better off on JSA.

Did I say I would be splitting up with my partner; what I said was a flippant comment of
Maybe we should split up and then be able to claim!
There is a big difference bettwen Maybe and Will.

I am not grumbling at all about supporting my partner; all I was questioning is if anything could be received to help him.

Well, these services are kept on standby for when you do want them!

It would be daft of the fire brigade decided to stop serving a street because none of the occupants had had a fire in years wouldn't it?

And the NHS is constantly ticking over and will be there for you if you do need it! And there are situations not covered by private health care, I understand. For example, if you were knocked unconscious in an accident, they would not take you to the nearest private hospital!

Everyone uses the police as they are hopefully prevent you needing them as much as solving crimes against you.

You pay for the peace of mind as much as anything!

Lol, when I read the first line, I wondered if you were me! :rotfl:
  • I thought the police, fire brigade were covered by council taxes, not income tax.

Yes it is - as without it you cannot survive nor do anything without it.

I'm glad there are still some of us who don't see things that way...

Being short of money does not mean you have to be self centred!
