Yeah this was the first response I've had and it doesn't say the response is final!

I would write back then, tell them if this is not resolved in your favour you are considering taking this matter further.;)

They say that I applied for the loan on line and because of that all the terms and conditions i've agreed to. They say that if I can provide further information or evidence that will impact the decision then they will review it again, untiill they hear from me again they shall regard the complaint as closed!!

If this was purchased within the last 6 years, if you've not done so yet, I would request a Subject Access Request (SAR), where they should send you everything requested on the letter and comply by 40 days.

Here is the template letter link with details, I would do that where the info you need to help back your case may be amongst the SAR paperwork with a bit of luck.

They fob everyone off who purchased online, the FOS are getting used to these type of complaints now, so not to worry at this point.;)

As it was an online sale and from so long ago chances are you were never advised by an employee of Egg and therefore they did not sell you the PPI, you bought it youself. That is the most likely reason they are declining the complaint.

They will send anything they hold on you within the last 6 years.

You may not receive everything but the info as from 2003.

Please remind us, is this still active or settled?

Where-as PPI information should still be enclosed in the SAR anyway, even its not the info as from the sale of this policy.;)

    Hi there

There is no harm in trying, do you know if they were covered/regulated by GISC at the time, the FSA taken over these in Jan 2005?

If I am correct, I don't think these were regulated until 2001, the FOS (Financial ombudsman service), are unable to investigate complaints if that particular company were not regulated by either GISC or FSA.

Maybe this can be clarified by someone.

As far as I am aware the regulators were/are:

    FSA - 14 Jan 05 - present
    GISC - September 2001 - 13 Jan 05
    Association of British Insurers (ABI) - 1984 (I think) - September 2001

I have a DCA chasing me for £3327 of the loan (Cabot) but I'm not sure if it is still active or not. On my Egg account the balance of my loan is £0. I have sent a letter from Cabot asking for the SAR.

As for I bought the PPI I was given the impression that you had to have the PPI on loans over £8k-£10k at the time I bought it so get the loan accepted. Also i can't remember if the PPI be automatically ticked on the website in 1999.

Do you remember speaking to anyone at the time about the PPI?

I was certainly under the impression that you needed the PPI for a large loan (loan value was £15k), so it must have been suggested by Egg as I didn't speak to anyone else about a loan.
