Dear me! I've ben watching this thread for a while and I'm afraid I'm going to put my hand up and say I'm having a blonde day/week/year. I want to buy one of these Navmans as a birthday present for the OH but don't know where to start so hopefully someone can put it in plain english for me and anyone else who's thinking thank god someone else asked the question.
I want it to get me from A to B using a postcode. Tell me where the speed cameras are and I want to use it on the continent. I think from the comments on this thread that some machines will do all three as they are and some need to be upgraded with software. But which is my best option?
My OH would love one of these, what is it about men and toys? but not as much as I would like to stop the arguments when I get us lost yet again.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0 -
I have a Garmin i3 and it does all 3 things you asked for. Now my wife also has a car and I never seem to be allowed to use it, though!
Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -

I think the Navaman here only comes with UK maps. Europe maps cost extra 100 (unless you get them off flea bay - but not legal).
I took mine back to Tesco today - faulty goods. May get the 520 now...
Depends on your budget....Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -
My local link has one Navman 520 left at £150 but they said it does not do full postcode search. Only the first few digits, which stikes me as not much use.
Is that really the case and is the 520 worth the extra £50 or so over the Navman 320 or Garmin i3?
This will be my first satnav and my only other comparison is the Acer N35 at £170 from Morgan, which is a 'proper' PDA, so could be used for other things. Can the Navman be 'unlocked' to use as a PDA?
Like Joto, I need postcode directions and ability to tell me where the speed cameras are. Continental use would be good but not essential.
Hope someone can clarify. So far all I am clear about is that Tomtom is the mutts nuts of satnav but not worth the extra. Yes/no?0 -

On the 510 you only get 4 digit postcodes yes but it's not useless it will still find the address etc:)Darren0 -
How can this be of any value?Dalkirst wrote:On the 510 you only get 4 digit postcodes yes but it's not useless it will still find the address etc:)
My town has only two codes (in terms of first four digits) that cover the whole town. In another town I visit, about three codes (first 4 digits only) cover an area about 30 square miles.
Without being able to pin things down to the actual street, I cannot see this function would be of much use. Or am I missing something?
Cheers0 -
you enter the first four codes of the postcode initially, then you type in your street and the house number if you want.
the post code only narrows down the search i think as in how many roads are called "high street" in britain, after you've entered in your postcode theres probably only one in that area with the same name0 -

When you type the first 4 digits of the postcode you get a page of streetnames in that postcode area. You can then either scroll down that list or type the street name in to narrow it down to the houst number
Just a bit more taking than a full postcode search, nothing else...Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -
There you go;)Darren0

Thanks for the replies about postcode search.
So would everyone agree this is a better product than the Acer N35 PDA which comes with Navigator software (and all the Windows stuff) for only £15 more?0
