Growing Peas

help....
silly questions
hod do i stop the peas growing too tall... ie they are 8 foot tall, which is 1 ft above the netting structure - should i pinch out the top of each plant?
how do you know when to start harvesting?
i have pea pods in various stages, some have started to fill out, should i wait until there is enough for a meal.... or just start picking now and hope there is enoughsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Yes just pinch them out.
Start picking them when they have just started to fill the pods, when they are small like this they are lovely raw (well most are) and it will encourage more peas. When they get a bit bigger pick them to cook.
Just pick a few at different stages and see what you get, you'll soon get the hang of it.
But keep picking!Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I noticed that my French Beans are doing really well, got a couple that are about 4-5" long now, well impressed

I didn't use netting, we had a couple of old bamboo canes. I cut them in half and made a tent shape then strung garden string accross at different heights. The peas have grabbed on as they grew.
Been eating some this week, lovely fresh peas mmmmmmmmmmmm

I've been doing the Garden Organic pea trial this year and some of the varieties have been fantastic! There are some very heavy cropping (but also very tall) varieties, but we planted a load of Kelvedon Wonder too, and we have been getting enough for a meal for the pair of us every other day for a few weeks now. Mind you we do have a lot of plants, but then again we seem to have a lot of pea moth problems this year compared to usual too  Has anyone else had the same problem?
I've got to remember to save some seed from the GO ones, I think I'll designate one plant of each variety and leave them to mature. I've also just planted some more Kelvedon Wonders to try and get a late crop - they're a quick-growing variety so I'm hopeful!0 -
I've got tonnes of little tiny caterpillars on the leaves of mine. Only found them today when harvesting some more. I've picked off their leaves. I just hope they don;t find their way into the pods!0

Same here  I was trying to pick them off at first but they were so tiny it was impossible!!
We've had quite a few peas in the past week or so. None have been cooked, just eaten straight from the pod. I think I've been unlucky because every pod I've opened has had bitter tasting peas
so after 3 pods I gave up and maybe I don't like fresh peas now  Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0
