OS Daily Thread - SUNDAY 19 APRIL

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 19th April. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS friends!
Sunnyday - I hope you have a great day.
Nic1 - I am glad I got up at 0345 now so that I could read your post and message you. I do hope you managed to get some sleep. I am so so sorry for your loss. Will keep you and your DH and family in my thoughts and prayers
Cristabell - I am sure you know this, but they say that if you start eating honey made from your local area it can build up your resistance to the pollen.
Redruby - thanks hon, the tokens will be very gratefully received at this end!
Pippa - I finally had an email from Tris, just a couple of words and some kisses, so no idea how his health is but he is still here which is fab. I keep logging on early at the weekends in the hope he might be up to coming online.
Kaatlady - hope you are well hon, miss your postings
Thinking of you Halight.
Another book arrived for me yesterday. It was in the sale at £2 so a bit of a bargain. '101 One-pot Dishes: Tried-and-tested Recipes.' It's a BBC book and it has some delicious things in it. I feel all inspired now!
I also received the casserole dish I spoilt myself with a couple of days ago.. HERE. Couldn't resist the half price offer and I had built up so many Amazon vouchers that I really wanted to spend them! And it's gorgeous. Really heavy and beautiful and the lid is as relective as a mirror. I am so in love with it I almost took it to bed with me last night. (Only joking, though methinks I MAY need to get a life ....
)
Bought another two huge ham shanks. From Morrisons this time and they were just £1.33 each. Am going to cook both today so that we can have some roasted, and the rest in sandwiches and pasta or spanish omelette on Monday. Now we have cooked them successfully once there is no holding us back! I am going to try and keep some of the fat on so it becomes crackling once it is in the oven.
I hope you all have a lovely relaxing Sunday. I am hoping for good weather again so I can do some gardening. (and get the dratted greenhouse out of the bedroom!!)
Warm gentle
for all.

Bonjour mes amis
Nic1lou2 - Sorry to hear your news, dreadful shock, and big hugs to you and all the family. Small comfort at the moment, but at least no suffering to your DMIL, far better than my Dad 89 soon but with dementia, no idea who any of us are for last 5 years.
It's not as early as it looks as I am an hour ahead of you, but couldn't lay any longer in a strange bed, thank heavens for free wi-fi. DH still "zzzzzzzzzing", need to wake him shortly so we can have breakfast and get on our way, as about 550 miles to do today. Will be going over the Millau Bridge pictures here
May catch you later - have a good Sunday.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning. Cloudy but dry here. I have the car and trailor loaded for a boot sale, so I am off to the field in an hour or so to try and sell some junk. I have 3 mowers too, which I hope may sell as they take up the most space in the shed.
Some of the kids have a bag of clothes each, so they are hoping to get rid of them and replace them with new.
Plymouth lost yesterday which puts them in deep do do again. 2 games left...fingers crossed.
Did well for offers in ASDA yesterday, mostly non essentials, but Aero hot choc drink at £1 was a winner with the kids as they usually get smart price.
Well, best get my selling clothes on...NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning peeps, well I did get the worst end of the bargain with dd's friend staying over, they are both 10 but decided to get up at 5.55am!!!!!, grrrr.
Anyway, I have just taken some cooked chicken out of the freezer that I am going to make a chicken and leek pie for tea, I think I'll make 2 and freeze one for another time.
I have meal planned for the next 3 weeks so I know that we have plenty in now to last us the month really.
Weather is dull again today but got to hand some washing out shortly
have a good day!!!Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -
Morning All
Nic1lou2 - I missed the end of the thread yesterday but looks like (((hugs))) are in order for you.
Overcast here at the moment but hopfully the sun will appear soon. Couldnt get in the garden yesterdy to dry the washing so will be going for that today.
Other than that will be mainly pottering. DS will probably play out with friends whilst DD will drive me mad. Her friend lives in another village so cant come around at lot and DD expects us to provide her with entertainment. I do not enjoy having teenagers at all. Hope DS will be different at her age.
Last No 1 Ladies Detective tonight, will definately miss that series. No more Lewis either! Oh well have loads of library books so will get through them more quickly.
Need to go and adjust online Tesco order - have forgotten cat food.
Have a great day.

Morning all,
Diva, so glad you have heard from Tristan, even just a little something. Hope you manage to talk to him online soon. I was thinking about getting myself a proper lidded casserole dish too, though I do fancy a pottery one...
Donny - that bridge looks incredible, though it would terrify the wits out of me going across it!
N9eav, I have stocked up on the Aero hot choc too - I had been buying the occasional jar for my DD's anyway, so I've stashed a couple away now too. Good luck with your boot sale.
Milliemonster - how do you make the filling for your chicken & leek pie? Is it just a white sauce?
EssexGirl - I seem to be permanently taxi-driving my DD's around. I'd rather be doing that than them getting buses home late at night, but it drives me nuts!!!! However my oldest was 17 on Friday & is determined to be driving as soon as possible - so that will take some of it away & she can give her sisters lifts too!
Mate texted yesterday to ask if I wanted to join her for a girly evening at the house of a friend of hers (who I didn't know), so I thought "what the hell" & ended up having a really lovely dinner & chatting for a few hours. And admiring a very beautiful house - which makes me want to blitz mine!! Very civilised & grown-upMore are planned....
Though today not too much OS stuff as I will be mainly studying. I have 2 pieces of rump steak which I didn't use the other day, so as the DD's are out with their father today I will be having one of them. Probably with new potatoes.
Other than that, just a few general housework-y type things.
((((((hugs)))))) for all those needing/wanting them, especially NicLou today. xxLive your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Morning all,
Looks like a nice day here, bright but blowy, I do have washing to do, but will not have time to do it before we go out, so it will have to wait untill tomorrow.
Nic I hope you managed to get some sleep, big hugs to you all, its going to be a tough few weeks xx
Cooked chicken is in the fridge, will have that later with new pots and salad, so nice and easy, I made cookies yesterday same recipe as I always use, but I could not get them off the baking trayI ended up having to chisel them off straight into the bin in tiny little bits, dont know what went wrong.
:bdaycake::bdaycake:Happy Birthday Sunnyday have a great day xx
Ok better get on, hugs where needed xx
Ooooo edited to say, had a call yesterday, our Kayak is being delivered thie week :T:T, can't wait :j0 -
Morning Guys!
Nic1Lou2-Thinking of you.
Been up since 5am and have already read the paper which is a miracle for me. There is an interesting article in The Times talking about how much more practical it would be if we all grew our own fruit & veg...it makes alot of sense!
The weather seems ok again today. The DW is on and the WM will be put on in a bit. House is clean and tidy. May see if OH minds doing half an hr of ironing to catch up.
All dd's stuff for school is ready. She is being awarded another certificate this week....we are very proud and she gets her first GCSE in about 8 weeks at a grade B. Then she goes into year 10 September to start her other 12 or 13 GCSE's. We are looking for her work placement for next year atm which has to cover 2 weeks. We will draft a letter this week and send them to companies she would like to have experiance. She has been confirmed on 2 uni courses for the summer holidays which our council run for free. She has put in for another and just waiting to hear whether its yes or no.
Got pork chops out from the freezer last night and will cook slowly with a tin of mushroom soup. Having roasties, yorkies, cabbage and carrot/swede mash...yummy!
Have 2 funerals this week and tomorrows one will be the hardest. I know I'm going to be a blubbing mess. There are many going, most are good friends. Think I will skip going back to the house bit as they live up quite alot of steps and I cant manage that atm. I am sure the widow will understand. I think this week will be a toughie!
Anyway, I hope everyone else is well.
Smokey-Where are you hun? Hope you and family are well.
Hugs to all.

Nic1 - so sorry to hear about your DMIL. Had the same thing happen with my mum last year, and although it was expected in my case it still came as such a shock, so can imagine how you are all feeling (((((Hugs))))) to you and your family
Usual Sunday things going on here. Pile of ironing to make disappear and a £10 meal deal chicken from M&S to go into oven for lunch later. Still cloudy here in Kent so waiting for the sun to peek through. One load of washing to hang out so that should dry quite quickly. Might venture out and do a bit of pruning later, a couple of rose bushes are growing quite high. One is hanging over and trying to get into front door so that will be snipped with the secateurs. Usually leave gardening to DH but poke my nose in now and again
Have a good day all0 -
Morning all
Hugs to PP & Nic
Sunny here today, hope it's warmer than yesterday as the lodger likes the door open so she can wander in & out at will.
WM is on then thats it for the washing, back to work tomorrow so need to make sure everything is ready for that.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Morning peeps
Nic - hope you managed to get some sleep. Thinking of you all
Penny Pincher - a tough week for you so try to take it easy when you can. I also have all the uniforms ready (I'm usually ironing them on a Monday morning:rotfl:), just have to check the PE bags and make sure all homework is completed:rolleyes:
MSD - glad you have heard from Tris. Just a few words, but a comfort nonetheless
SunnyDay - have a lovely birthday:j
Weather slightly overcast this morning in Essex. No matter, the wash-bin is empty as will the ironing basket be later on. I love to listen to The Archers whilst doing the ironing (that's if I don't get to church!)
Have done loads in the garden over the past two weeks. Raised beds are now 'cat-proof'. Lots of little seedling sunbathing in the greenhouse waiting for slightly warmer weather. Tatties are in, as are cabbages, lettuces, carrots, beetroot. Still have leeks and chard from the winter. May put these in a stir-fry tonight with some roast chicken and roast potatoes.
No washing for me today - nothing goes on the line on a Sunday as my granmother in heaven would have a blue fit:eek:
Will take the springers down to the ford later - it is quite high at the moment with all the rain we have had. All the better for swimming in say the dogs!
Hope you all have a good day!
