I've never used their broadband but some years ago I was with LineOne who were taken over by Tiscalli & when I cancelled they took my money for 3 months in total promised to refund me each month, which they never did, as so a company I avoid.
  • Ho ho ho - came here looking for a thread on Toucan broadband and I'm not disappointed!

I signed up to them through Uswitch who flagged them up as the cheapest and with 1GB 'unlimited' broadband for £14.99 a month it seemed like a really good deal.

Until I started getting the Fair Usage Policy emails - how can you possibly call a limit of 0.75gb a week unlimited??!?! I used to use over 100gb per month on F2S but have gradually cut right back to about 3-4gb in order to save some cash.

Since I was signed up for 12 months I resigned myself to being stuck with them and tried to find ever more ingenious ways of only using bandwidth during the middle of the night, but even this wasn't good enough for them it seems.

Still, they've now done me a huge favour as I got home last night to find a letter saying they were terminating my contract for breach of the fair usage policy, and giving me my MAC!

Woo-hoo! Only problem is they have also cut off my broadband completely so I will now probably be internet-less for 3 weeks.

Any tips for best £15-ish a month broadband deal?

  • I came across this post while searching the internet for information on how to lodge an official complaint about Toucan broadband. I feel so strongly about Toucan and their customer 'care' that I felt the need to take time out of my working day to register to use this forum and post a word of warning for anyone thinking of signing up for Toucan broadband.

We signed up for Toucan broadband when we moved house. We were told we would be up and running in 5 days. This was especially good news as we work from home and rely on broadband internet for our business. That was over a month and a half ago and we are still waiting. We ring almost every day and are told that a manager or team leader will ring us back, nobody ever does. All anyone tells us is that it's a problem with BT. Ive rung BT direct and they say there's nothing wrong with the line. We cant cancel the contract because we are tied in for 12 months. We are at our wits end. We are contemplating just buying our way out of the contract and starting over with someone new.

If you do a search on the internet for other Toucan reviews you will see that many other people have also never received their broadband service which is very disheartening.

missymooreukHave you thought about considering business specific broadband packages when you do decide to end your contract with Toucan?? It may cost a little more but it can offer better priority, lower contention etc.Cheers

    Hi
Why can't you cancel your contract? They are not providing you the service, for which you are paying for, this comes under "The Sale of Goods & Services Act of 1982, "which states that a service should be fit for it's intended purpose", as you are not getting any service off them, then I think you qualify.
Write or phone, tell them you want to cancel, quote the above act and tell them you are getting in touch with your local trading standards officer, (have you tried them, they are usually quite good) and if you can, get your MAC, then you have 30days to migrate to another isp.
God, I hate isp's like this, they just take your money and either give no serivce, or a very poor one, I was just listening to the Tiscali advert on the TV, "Unlimited" my Eye, I just don't know how they get away with this.

Hope you get yourself sorted soon, best of luck.
  • Have just found this site through Googling, and hope someone can help an old simple bloke like me.

Living where I do, broadband only became available about 18 months ago and I took Toucan's basic package. All I need is the e-mail facility and a bit of internet downloading (no games, no movies - just a few commercial web pages)

All went well until the fax machine went belly up and I realised I did not really need a fax line after all so I could dispose of the dedicated BT line which served it and to which the Toucan broadband was connected.

It needed about another 2 metres of cable to connect to the incoming telephone line and as I have taken exception to BT's policy of charging its customers extra for the privilege of paying by cheque I told Toucan they could charge the line rental and goodbye BT.

Now, it seems Toucan have installed a second broadband connection with a new e-mail address and so I am paying twice. I can't cancel the first as I have, over the last year or so, encouraged my contacts around the world to use my ****4@toucan address and my "new line" is ****29@toucan etc. and it seems never the twain shall meet!

I reckon I've spent the best part of £20 talking to their "technical help line" in India where I can't understand the accent, and have been referred to "customer services" in Ireland where the staff are extremely unhelpful, punctuating every other sentence with "I'm terribly sorry" as they obviously read from an idiot card.

A carefully phrased 12 point e-mail has resulted in a sudden dash to hide behind the Data Protection Act, plus "please do not hesitate to contact us again".

The only way I can send e-mails is due to the kindness of a local computer dealer who has given me access to his btinternet server and password, and the only way I can get incoming ****4 e-mails is by acting on a tip and entering 123456 as my toucan password.

    What a !!!! up!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

By the way ****4 does not conceal an obscenity - only my real name!

    Regards to all.
