Morning everyone!, Happy Birthday Hillstep!!! (sorry can't do the birthday cake icon thingie, I'm not that techie minded I'm afraid)

Well, went to Tesco last night to stock up for the next month (just got paid) thought I was being really good buying the value stuff and really looking out the best buys but still spent £109!!! which is over a third of my food budget for the month (sigh), but I won't need anymore loo rolls, washing powder or fabric softener for the month, the freezer is stocked the pantry is stocked, I have more than enough bread flour to make enough bread for the month, plenty of milk in the freezer and baking ingredients so all we should need for the rest of the month is fruit and fresh veg, lets see if I can stick to it.

We also went through the chest freezer yesterday afternoon to do a stock take!!!, I've got a book with everything written down now so I am going to meal plan each week. (we have 11 bags of quorn sausages!!!!!), so I am going to pop over to the mealplan thread for inspiration shortly.

Kids are currently at my dads, hubby is at work, sun is shining and I was going to go for a run this morning but I did 6.6 miles last night so legs a little tired, will go tonight instead when hubby gets home, I have to go, been making Twinks hobnobs this week and eating far too many of them!!

We are having one of dd's friends over for a sleepover tonight (2 x 10 yr old girls, should be fun....NOT), ds is staying at their house tonight (so we're effectively doing a child swap for the night), not sure if I've got the best end of the bargain here tho.

Washing is in currently so will get that hung out soon, then going to attack the bathroom and prob make some more hobnobs seeing as though I have almost eaten them all!!!

    Tru - blog marked

Sistercas - I always say that I have brown fingers. I was trying to show little bear about growing cress - epic fail!

MSD - I need to get bought bread today so I may try and persuade dear heart that kingsmill are terribly pleasant. If I manage to get some I will pm you.

Pennypincher - I am glad you are feeling better.

:o I'm going to buy a new plug today.

Well, I had wanted to do this dratted Persian stew with dratted rhubarb because it sounded 'different'. This coincided with little bear being on a high cuddle diet. So last night, rather than let the finally defrosted lamb go to waste dear heart and I browned the vast quantities of lamb the recipe called for, bunged (technical term) it in the slow cooker with lots of sliced onion and veggie stock and when it is cool I am going to portion it up and freeze as a basis for other stews, I always like to add fresh anyway. And I am now looking what to do with lots of fresh herbs (plan to freeze also) and rhubarb. I am not a fan of rhubarb.

It's amazing what seems a good idea at the time. Tea tonight is lamb stew.

And the sandals fit just fine. ;)

    Hugs to all.

Edited to add - forgot to say Happy Birthday Hilstep, I hope you have a brilliant one!

sunnygirl you certainly sound like you are an experienced gardener.I would love to be like that I try really hard and then I lose interest and forget to water them , I try but am the kiss of death to all things green :D
Not really I just pick everyone's brains when I see something nice in their garden & ask my Mum & Dad stuff I'm not sure about ;) My garden was an awful mess and 3" deep under water when we moved here in 2000 but my DH & Dad paid for it to be done for my 40th birthday 3 years ago so I enjoy pottering about in there now. It's nothing exotic - a patio, gravel, stepping stones & a big raised bed accross the back section - but I love it. I've made DH shift his shed out of it as I couldn't move with the trampoline as well :rotfl: I'm ok at watering once stuff is in the pots & baskets etc but I often forget before then! I was looking at a plant in the front garden yesterday when I was saying goodbye to my friend and its dropping all its new red leaves so that def needed a water
  • Morning all,

Still tired from being awake most of Friday night for oldest DD's birthday party & then we went for nice meal at local Harvester yesterday (on the actual day). She's now 17 & planning her driving lessons, eek!!!

Murky outside but dry so might tempt fate & stick the wet washing on the airer just outside the patio doors - then it can be retrieved fast in case of rain... Also need to

    Sweep/mop kitchen floor
    Wipe kitchen worktops
    Unload/reload DW
    Clean bathroom

    Lunch probably baguettes & ham
Supper - rump steak (& don't know what with it yet...)

Noticed Asda had a "lamb box" for just over £12 yesterday. Can't remember the exact contents, but a small roasting joint, some chops & 2 other cuts of some description. Thought it seemed good value?

Happy Birthday Hilstep!!! :bdaycake: Have a fabulous day.

MSD  Hope you're feeling a little cheerier this week hon, I love baking too, find it so therapeutic & relaxing.
Redruby, I'm sure your DD loved it - it was probably safer than camping out. I have a big cabin in my garden I am hoping to persuade my DD's to use as a den/sleepover room & the door locks as well.
Tru, I like hearing about the piggies & teens too!
Salopman, that lavender/camomile spray sounds lovely...
Nic1Lou2, hope you feel a bit better later on.

Hello to everyone else too - ((((hugs)))) for those needing or wanting.

    Morning peeps

nice and bright outside today but the wind has a bite to it, i got wrapped up to take the houndies out earlier.

Nic - Try lentil & bacon soup with the stock too, it`s lovely

Hillstep - Happy Birthday :bdaycake:have a lovely time

I`m just maing a thai green curry and some lemon rice for tea later, i have to make it early so that i can take some to w*rk with me as i`m on a late shift today, DH can nuke his for a few minutes later when he comes home so he will be happy. I also need to remember to take chicken out of the freezer for tomorrow.

It`s great to hear that so many are pottering around in the garden, i love it. I went down to the greenhouse to water the plants earlier and the radishes and onions which are in my square foot gardening pots are already peeping through :j i`m off into the kitchen again shortly to water the plants in there and maybe put some back n the greenhouse to see how they fare.

    Have a good day peeps.

Hi everyone, not too much OSing for me today but thought I would say hello.

Made my white sauce last night and no lumps! Yay! But ive never tasted white sauce apart from lasagne so dont know if it tasted like it should. Added some cheese and to pasta , was ok but nothing show stopping and it didnt taste better than pasta and sauce from a pack! Maybe i underestimated the amount of cheese required

Just boiking eggs for brunch. I always struggle with soft boiled eggs and until recently had a special egg pot. I fell asleep and burnt it out a few weeks ago so using new pot and method. Hope they dont go wrong else ill have wasted two good FR eggs.

Narky today:mad: as was woke at 9am by neighbour having a screaming row with her brother and then blasting loud music. Oh so tired and sleep has not been good and I really wanted to sleep until my body wanted to wake up. Certainly cant complain though as for most here 9 would be a luxury lie in :D

MIght go walking today . Theres some hills about 3 miles away I have the urge to go sit on and look at the city. USed to go here years ago and just sit for hours as overlooks the whole of belfast (or whole of belfast in my mind anyway, a pretty good view) I do like a nice view and it helps me think .

    Hugs to all.
