OS Daily Thread - Saturday 18th April

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 18th April. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS friends!
hilstep2000.
JackieO - hope you have a great holiday
Rosyred and Sunnyday - since I hit 40, my dead straight hair has suddenly gone all wavy! When everyone was struggling with hair straighteners and defrizz potions, I used to be really smug 'cos wash mine and brush it and there it was all blonde and straight and beautiful (even if I say so myself..
:rotfl:). The last three years its like someone stole my hair and replaced it with this frizzy mess. Plus way too many white hairs growing through! I used to say I was too young to 'dye' but on my 41st birthday I had blonde streaks put in all round the front to cover up the white! :rotfl:
and hugs to Doelani and lekale
nic1, Squiggly, Ravy, moggins
DD&D - So sorry you are having a bad time hon
Doelani - *hugs* honey, it must be a painful time for you.
hilstep2000.
Halight - where are you hon? It's been ages and I know you weren't feeling great
My OH bought me a pressie from Wilkinson, a 3-tiered plastic greenhouse. I was worried about how strong it was so he put it up in the lounge for me and as the frame is metal it's suprizingly sturdy. However, we had guests coming so he carried it through to the bedroom. Three days later its still there with two of his tshirts draped over it 'airing' apparently! This weekend it's definately going out into the garden before it becomes a permenant fixture and I find the cat sleeping in the bottom and my OH storing his underwear on one of the shelves.
Started my online Tescos shop. They FINALLY have Stardrops on the list... and it's on offer for 99p a litre. They also have a multi surface cleaner but that seems a bit expensive.
Made an oat, ginger and raison tray bake yesterday plus cheese and chilli straws and some no cook chocolate balls which we are enjoying. I do so love baking. My hand mixer arrived this week from Amazon (spending vouchers I have accrued) so can't wait to start using that.
Book arrived and am really enjoying it. Although a lot of the tips etc are really obvious to we old stylers, I am still enjoying reading it and have already marked out a few recipes to try. My OH is interested in the menu plans as we aren't good at planning in advance..
Warm gentle
for all.

p.s. Thank you to the two lovely people who sent me Kingsmill Wallace and Gromit tokens, I am still saving, so if anyone else has any...

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.
If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.

Morning. Looks to be sunny today. No plans yet, keeping the options open.
I actually attacked the storage shed yesterday and got quite productive. I now have a pile of stuff which I will take to a boot sale tomorrow.
I started 5 gallons of wine from the blackberries blocking up the freezer and sorted a trailer load of rubbish for the dump. So not a bad day.
Need to go shopping later, so might get back to meal planning and try and plan and save a little.
Have a nice day where ever you areNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning :hello:
N9eav, how are the eggs doing?
My head’s almost straight and I’m going to have to stop calling myself psychologically unbalanced :rotfl: (my words, not the doc’s, lol)
By slowing down a bit and separating things out, I’ve realised I can actually get more done. I need to separate my ramblings on here too, people come here to read about other people’s daily OSing so probably aren’t interested in details about the mini-trus teen angst, or the guinea pig’s teethSo I will keep on topic and anything non-OS will be on my blog
Jobs for today -- Bring in another tray of salad leaves to munch on, take out the eaten tray to re-grow (yum)
- The tomato and cuc seedlings are now plants, so they need to come out of the pots and into the other greenhouse where they WILL grow brilliantly
- Start a meal plan, I haven’t done one for ages
- Write a new inventory for the freezer
Remember I said about extra space in our kitchen? Well, we’ve knocked the wall out and the hidden cupboard is 1’7” deep, 2’5” wide and goes from floor to ceiling, so about 8’ tall :j Why would anyone brick that up just to put kitchen units in front of it?Now I need to find the kitchen photos thread to [STRIKE]steal people's ideas[/STRIKE] get some inspiration

Morning all
Up bright & early here to watch the GP qualifier, the lodgers been fed & been out, fish fed, washing's on the line & 2nd load in the WM & the kitchen's had a swish & swipe.
The lodger was so funny yesterday, when we came back from feeding the ducks with the grandkids, DGS got out his racing track & spread it all over the lounge floor & despite having her bed in the hall, the lodger came & lay down in the middle of the racetrack, she has 2 little boys at home & so is used to kids & obviously misses having them around.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester
Tru, I love hearing about people's lives, teens, toddlers, guinea pigs et all, it would be a boring thread if all we did was list our chores.

Morning All
The sun is out today :jmind you its blooming cold. No rain forcast for the next few days either. OH will be in the garden all day preparing for a patio and path to be laid so I will be pottering around the house. Will do some washing ironing (not much cleared the mountain yesterday) and some baking. Also need to sort out dinner tonight - think might do chicken wraps they are faffy to do but the whole family loves them.
Think will pop to the farm shop when I am dressed to pick some sausages for lunch and some fruit n veg, have 4 M&S half price chickens in the freezer so will get one out for tomorrow.
Had some lovely news this morning in that I have managed to get 2 tickets to see QI in June, I am not going - got them for my Dad & Step mum but have let him know & he is very happy. Now would be nice if I was lucky enough to get Top Gear tickets for me.
Anyway I really need to get dressed so have a great Saturday.

Morning all,
One load in the wm, and another two to go in, OH came home from work looking like a ghost, covered from head to toe in tile dust , so his work clothes need to go on a boil wash. Think I will risk putting them on the line, as its overcast but blowy.
Tru, i must say I agree with Hester, I love hearing about your piggies and all, keep it coming.
Need to hoover through this morning and mop floors and change the bed, but I will wait for OH to come back from the car boot, as its his mess too, and I do it all week
DD was at a sleepover last night, in a huge summerhouse, which is attached to the house of her friend, her and 8 other girls, I wonder if they got much sleep , I dont like it when she is not here, I miss her, and so does little dog, she is asleep on dd's bed
Nachos for tea at dd's request, I am not convinced about having crisps as the main part of a meal, but will give it a go  I also need to cook a chicken to have cold tomorrow with new pots and salad, we are out for most of the day, so it will be nice and quick when we get back, Might make some cookies when the oven is on, ready for school next week.
Hilstep :bdaycake::bdaycake:Happy Birthday hun, have a good day xx
Diva I have two more tokens for you, currently residing in the freezer, once we have eaten the contents I will send them on to you.
I do miss Kathys posts, I hope she is back with us soon xx
Halight, Hope you are ok hun xx
Seedlings are coming on well, as well as my 24 tomato plantsI have cucumber, red hot and lemon drop chilli's, rocket, french beans, runner beans, garlic, onions, and lettuce coming up :T
OK enought rambling from me, Have good days all xx0 -
Morning Guys!
Happy Birthday Hillsptep
The nurse left just after 8am and my pain is now a little better:j:jPut the WM on timer last night and OH has hung outside as its lovely and sunny here atm. House is clean and tidy too. I am feeling mentally stronger this morning as the past few weeks have been a bit of a blur. Body is still weak but at least my brain is a little more in gear.
Got back from family yesterday and what a day we had:eek::eek::eek::eek:....why are families so difficultI made it quite clear to sister that I dont think her current lifestyle is suitable for her kids and she needs to face her responsibilities and put her kids as priority. I cant go into it too much but even I am shocked by what she has been up to these past couple of weeks and alot of things dont shock me:D Dad & Mum have changed their Will slightly so I had to look through and sign them for the solicitor who was present, so he could take them back.
OH has bought folding posts to put on the driveway as neighbours keep parking on there and he is fed up with it. He is putting them on later today. There are 3 spaces but the nurse comes daily and she needs to park, then if the doctor comes round, our car and we have a friend who parks there daily to get the train.
His veggie patch is doing well and can see shoots coming up. We had to buy a new mower (sp) this week as our other one blew up literally:rotfl:Got one from Argos and used our Nectar points up so had to contribute £30 towards it but we paid for the extra 3 year warranty, but originally was £90...so was happy with that.
DD doing well. I think she has had a good holiday. Loads of revision and homework but seems to be managing it all well atm.
Anyway, I have waffled for long enough.
Hope everyone is ok.
