Nappy changing nightmare!

Everyone is different (thankfully or it would be a boring life) but personally strapping them down seem's so defeatist (for want of a better word) I would much rather crack the problem teaching them that there are times they need to be still, and times they need to listen to you, IMO these 'little' things form a firm basis for their more serious discipline in later life. This sounds a bit ott, but I mean that getting them to listen at an earlier age will save you having to do it as much when they are older, bigger, faster, stronger etc! Give in all the time, and you are just delaying the problem, little ones really do understand so much more than many give them credit for, they can just sniff out a weakness a mile off, and are not afraid to take advantage of it
As I say just my opinion. 0 -
Ha. I'm going through the exact same thing with my 16 month old. I've found the best bet is to use a lightweight blanket to play peekaboo. I just place it over his eyes, then he pulls it off, and then he puts it back. But god forbid he spies the window if I'm changing him on the bed. We lose him then!Make £2012 in 2012 Member 2290

lie them down, on the mat on the floor, you sit on your bum, your feet pinning their arms to the floor, leaving your hands free to deal with the bum!0

When they were really tiny i changed them on a changing mat and when they were a little older i changed them on my lap.0

Try a sticker stuck on their hand - a bit of distraction for you anyway while they try and pull it off0

I change my daughter on the floor and pin her down with one leg - I also shout NO if she is being naughty which does make her cry but seems to help.
I have lots of sympathy as we have many POO episodes that get very messy.
Somone did reccomend to me to use pull pants to make change time easier. I didn't find it helped but it might be worth a go.
Good Luck x

Middle daughter was the worst - we had a fire-place that was NEVER used with a big fitted fireguard. Because she wouldn't lie down I used to find it easier to stand her up facing away from me against the fire-guard, with her legs apart. She'd bob up and down making excited squeals and I could change her in next to no time. One life.0

I have to catheterise my daughter (8 months) aswell! I've found the one thing she likes best is a packet of crisps to play with, not much use now but shes loves them!0
