Nappy changing nightmare!

Every time my dd (16 months old) needs her nappy changed she turns on to her tummy while I'm trying to do it. She will not stay on her back for a second. It is driving me nuts. If she has done a poo I'm having to just shower her down
I use pull ups to reduce the hassle but this is really annoying. She doesn't do this when OH changes her nappy. Just me!
I give her a toy or something to try to distract her but this doesn't work.
Any ideas?

I try the distraction technique, give her something she is only allowed when nappy is being changed (i give little one her tube of bum cream)
I also have always changed DD on my lap as if you do it from birth it's easier to accommodate their growth and when they hit the 'getaway' stage it is much easier as you can hold them still.
The other thing I would say is that at 16 months she is definitely old enough to tell no. If she is wriggling too much tell her so and consistantly praise when she is laying still (when dad changes her?) she will get the message. They all try it on at some point.
Good luck with it.0 -
Try giving her a biscuit to encourage her to move onto her front.
Like your user name :rotfl:I hate migraines.0 -
My daugher is also a little monkey when having her nappy changed, she rolls over, runs off and squirms about but only really does this with a wet nappy.
As soon as I say no she laughs which makes me laugh so its just a game really. Singing used to work all the time but now I usually have to sing 'Thereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee wasssssssssssssssssssss' (there was) really slowly as this allows me time to change her before she realises the song im about to sing is rubbish!!
Aiken Drum, Wind the Bobbon & Postman pat seem to work best!! I love my gorgeous little girl

Oh dear! I must have been a monster mum

My daughter used to try and stop me changing her nappy at this age and I just told her off and worst case I would pin her to the nappy mat at the crucial moment to keep her still

It's been a long time since I changed nappied (youngest is now nearly 12), but I remember holding both ankles (with a finger between to stop ankle bones rubbing), so long as both feet are pointing the right way, the rest of the body has to stay that way up too. Granted, there was a lot of wriggling going on in the middle, but a firm twist on the ankles got it all back in place....... (Now I sound like some kind of monster!)Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Another 'monster mum' here as I used to hold their ankles and/or tell them off if they took off while being changed!
She is pushing your buttons and you need to treat is like any other situation where she needs to behave.
I always sang to mine too, or they had a toy, so it wasn't a serious affair - I just wouldn't allow them to wriggle away when covered in poo!0 -
just a bit of sympathy for the op because my twin boys are 9 months now and seem to love trying to escape when im changing their nappies.
they try anything and everything to wriggle away:rotfl:opinions are like **seholes, everybody has got one and they all stink!

No, DH and I mastered that technique too. And he demonstrated it to someone else who had a very wiggly baby, and they were impressed too! It's been a long time since I changed nappied (youngest is now nearly 12), but I remember holding both ankles (with a finger between to stop ankle bones rubbing), so long as both feet are pointing the right way, the rest of the body has to stay that way up too.
