Muppet, I had to go back as well but the little changes have made a big difference. I never noticed the boiler either but now that you've changed it, it sticks out like a sore thumb. :D

I can't have a lot of stuff on my counters. We have a dirt road outside our place  so dust is a major factor. I like your kitchen too Ollie. Although I wouldn't have the utensil thing hanging. Spiders would make their webs in it every night. :D Funny the things that go though your mind.

To be honest there isn't really enough drawer space to have them in one. I've got a stainless steel container that is supposed to hold utensils but it always falls over when I put things in it. There isn't even enough space in cupboards to be able to put gadgets away out of sight. If I did that, there wouldn't be any room for food etc, lol!

We've been here about a year and we've not seen a single spider since moving in. The last place was full of the 'biggest Borises' that England plays host to!

Hi there - im not brave enough to post a pic of my kitchen on here yet cos i need your help first. You all keep mentioning a HM cleaner of vinegar and stardrops that eats grease! Iv tried to find the receipe to no avail - found one for vinegar lemon juice and essential oil but not with stardrops. I have a SS cooker and hood that are the bane of my life - always dirty and streaky and no amount of cif, SS wipes etc etc will get them clean. I was going to try bar keepers friend on them but thought id give your concoction a whirl first even if it does resemble a water sample!! Can one of you kind gals post it please
    Thanks

Have you checked out this thread about cleaning cooker hoods? Maybe there's something on there that may come be useful. Don't have one myself, so no personal experience of them.

I read here somewhere to use a mix of equal parts white vinegar, stardrops and water. I have it in an old spray and get on with it very well. If I am doing stainless steel though or anything needing a polish I wipe with the mix, then wipe with a clean wet cloth, then shine with microfibre.

This is what I use for both my cooker hood (Stainless)and cooker top (glass). I haven't found anything else, even specialist stainless steel cleaners (waste of money!) to get this looking good.

Have to say, it is new and I'm very aware that I need to Keep it clean, rather than 'get it clean!'

Thanks foe that Purpleivy Ill give it a try. Mine arent filthy and i do try to keep them clean but i have 3 young children who every time they come into the kitchen seem to touch the oven and leave sticky fingerprints on it. They may only be fingermarks but they are really hard to get off - if you wipe it with a wet cloth then you get streak marks as well!!! When i use cream. wet cloth and then a good buff it looks great but then enter child and back to square 1!!! As they never touch or lean on the hob that does look like new - its halogen and i clean that to a gleam every night. Its the SS that gets me.

The bane of my life is the sides of the toaster  ! Because it's usual home is below the top cupboards we need to move it forwards before using it - (otherwise you get greasy grimey stains from the heat below the cupboards!) - so there are permanent finger marks on the sides.

When the current batch of appliances are replaced, it will be with something a bit more finger/kitchen friendly!

A final buff with a microfibre cloths will get rid of streak marks if the surface is really clean.
