If I get my own Quad LNB do you think that they'll install it if you're from Sky?
AMO
Possibly, not 100% sure as Sky's own engineers usually have to follow certain procedures/policies
But the independent sub-contractor would do it for you.
I'm just waiting for the Freesat HD PVR's to come down in price over the next year and then i'll be getting one and hopefully just add a few extra FTA that aren't currently on and then will (fingers crossed) not have to pay a penny for TV again...other than the TV license.
That will give me more flexibility with chopping and changing my landline and broadband provider in the future.0 -
If you want to produce that as evidence in anything you will need to ask their (Sky and the customer service rep) permission. You can use it for your own personal use. But if you're trying to prove them wrong by saying you have recordings on something, you'd have to inform the person that you were recording them, I'm sure.
Yeah, i've been doing that.
I'll definetly bear that in mind, on future calls :money:
Thanks0 -
Apart from the various asides how is the powf working? Do you get all the channels promised? Have Sky ignored you regarding D/D?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Well, after sending the letter, 2 weeks later the 4 free packages went off.
So i rang up to see what was going on, they said...i could have them back, aslong as i gave my DD details, to which i kindly refused and they said..no problem, you'll just carry on receiving the free to air channels.
To be honest, i've already got used to the free to air channels now, which im very happy with.
For the price which includes installation, cant beat it !! very happy overall0 -
Thanks, when the current busy period has eased, we'll see about getting POWF. Daughters back from Uni soon and as she's always texting and her phone affects freeview we'll give it a try. Fed up with pixellation screen.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Got fed up with daughter receiving texts all the time and messing up the tele so have gone ahead and ordered. Look forward to fun calls to sky.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

If you happen to get one of sky's own installers (which you dont know until the day an installer arrives) then they probably wont.
Incorrect. Sky installers now mainly only fit Sky+ and Sky HD installs so they have loads of Quad LNBs on their van and only a few standard LNBs. The boxes on the van are individually assigned to individual customers before they leave base (due to the smart card pairing to the boxes for the premium channels) but all the accessory bits like cables and LNBs are not.
I had an official Sky installer for my mum's Sky Pay Once Watch Forever install and I mentioned about a Quad LNB and he said "no problem" and fitted one free of charge. He said the Quad LNBs were better quality and usually gave less issues with poor reception so he preferred fitting them. Unfortunately i didn't think to ask about getting him to install a Double Cable too and my mum's satellite dish is round the side of her house after a 50 foot run along the eaves down the back of the house and round the side. So unfortunately if I want to get my Mum a Freesat PVR then we are stuffed as the cable is not up to the job. So if you either beg or pay for a Quad LNB make sure you also get a double cable too. Don't forget they drill through your wall and feed a cable through it as part of the install proces.....0 -
Right I'm now going to show my ignorance, why would I ask the engineer for a quad lmb? does this mean I could run/ get run another cable to another room/tele, add a sky box and get POWF? Never considered sky before and so know little or nothing about it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

You need a cable for each channel. So to have a different channel in a different room, or to use a PVR/Sky+ and record one channel while viewing another, you need more than a single LNB. The twin LNB's cost only a little less than the quads, so if you fit a quad and the additional cabling you are futureproofing the install for not a lot more money. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
