I watched the repeat on More4 last night and quite enjoyed it. I've always been quite thrifty in terms of shopping but only recently got into crafts so I found it quite inspiring. I really would love a go at pottery. But she did gloss over details - I would love to know what to look for in a sewing machine and how to use it. And it does seem to defeat the purpose to pay people to do the work for you!
I liked what Cath Kidston said about just having what you like and not minding what other people think.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

I wonder if the BBC will show repeats of Change That. I used to love that show and went to the filming of one of them.
I've still got books that I bought back in the 90's such as Doing Up Old Junk.0 -
I watched it last night and was dissapointed too, I thought it was a bit yummy mummy playing at being fashionably thrifty. The kitchen must have cost a fortune, that aga was beautiful though.
It reminded me of a book review I read on amazon, the book was about how to enjoy simple weekends ...
"Oh dear......what a waste of money this book was, written by a terribly smug ,uber Boden-esque middle class writer who dispenses such nuggets of wisdom as to eat jacket potatoes when its Bonfire Night, have a cleaner at your second home so its easier to cope with guests that are coming to stay, wear cashmere whilst lounging around ones house ...what a load of claptrap."

I agree - I didn't think her approach seemed thrifty. A few cheap chairs and a free mirror seemed to be limit to the money saving! Lovely stuff though.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

Yes definitely the O/S forum was here way before all these programmes, there is even the book Thrifty Ways, which was out before India Knight, Channel 4 et al jumped on board.
I love reading thrifty books, one of my all time faves to dip into is the Tightwad Gazette.

Oh - and the programme did inspire me to get my old knitting bag though. Am knitting squares and rectangles to use up old wool to put towards a bug blanket for my own house.

I've just looked on the website at the crafts part - The step-by-step guides to crafting and DIY I already know how to do (years of watching DIY programmes have paid off
:rotfl: ) and I got "Crafty Cat" on the quiz  Apart from inspiration and the fact I love the renovation of rooms there's really not much there for me. BUT my DD (aged 8) sat and watched it, rewound parts to watch again and now would like to have a go at making her own cushions etc
The only bit I didn't like was that my DD dragged me into the livingroom, insisted I sat down and listened to the part she did in the market about `picking things up and looking at them' as I'm constantly telling my daughter to keep her hands to herself and not pick things up in the shops - DD is now saying its fine for her to do it 'cause Kirsty said its okay :rotfl: I can't see me managing to drag her past a charity shop either without her wanting to go in and look, it was bad enough for her looking for books, now it seems she's wanting to look at things to decorate with as well :rotfl::rotfl:
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
