    Morning all,
Didn't get on here y/day so much to do.
DH and I went to the builders merchants to get more sand and wallcrete so we went in the van with the trailer on tow.
As we were driving back a Pheasant flew into us, we looked behind but didn't see the bird so we thought it proberbly just clipped the van and flew off.
We pulled into the drive and got out, there stuck in the ladders that are on the roofrack was the pheasant.:eek:
We have a friend who rears them on his land for shoots so I phoned him and he offered to hang it for a few days, pluck it and prepare it for me to cook. Well, waste not etc. I'll bake him a cake for his trouble as I couldn't do it.
Anyone got a recipe for Pheasant?

WM on and BM finished, I'm cooking a gammon, leek and cheese plate pie for DD2&SiL2b and our dinner, jackets and sweetcorn to accompany.
Did 1 hr ironing this a.m.
Kitchen S&Sed and will now get back to re-pointing stone walls.

    Welcome to all newbies.
PENPIN, hope you feel better today.
    Wonder how SMOKY is.
CANDYGIRL, What a beautiful DGD, what is her name?
    Have a good day all.

If you only have one, then it will only feed 2, 3 at a push if it's a decent size.....don't bother trying to get meat off the legs though, very sinewy!

Roast it covered with streaky bacon with half an onion up its bum, serve with roasties, cabbage/kale/broccoli, parsnip mash & bread sauce. Then chuck the remains into a pot for stock & make game soup with the bits of meat :)

Morning All. Don't seem to have been around on here much lately, so am far behind on who's doing what where. Have had family to stay over Easter, and an old college friend for the day Wednesday. We went to the theatre last night and we're off to viist a NT property this afternoon - feels like holiday time! DH is back to work next week so maybe things will feel more normal then. The ironing is overflowing the cupboard again, but I seriously lack the motivation to tackle it. Even bought bread this week which I've not done for ages.......maybe I should be posting on the confessions thread rather than here!
Hilstep, I hope you have a great birthday tomorrow.
((HUGS)) to all who need one today.

Am back from my blood test - how boring, just sitting there for 2 hours. Thank goodness I took my Maureen Lipman book to keep me company, she always raises a smile. First test she forgot to take another phial for cholesterol and thyroid testing so have come out of there feeling like a pin cushion after 3 jabs instead of 2  Oh and I can't stand needles grrrrr

Came home and thought to myself never mind I have a nice warm spicy loaf to get out of the BM and slather with butter. Guess who forgot to put any liquid in - concrete block anyone  :o I really want it now that I have smelt it so will set it up again WITH the liquid this time. Just had friend egg on toast with tinned spaghetti - lovely. Gotta get on with the housework now. Speak to you later xxxxxx

    Afternoon all.

    Hilstep happy birthday for tomorrow.

Chrisca you have my sympathy re the jabs. Any time I have to have a blood test, Mr LW has to come with me to drive me home, as I'm always so woozy afterwards (if I haven't actually fainted).

Sybil how are the sandals - have you worn them in yet so that they're comfortable?:rotfl: They sound a bit like the last pair of boots I bought - DEFFO not for walking in. But then, it doesn't matter when one uses a wheelchair - right?;)

Haven't done much today, as the Mensa meeting last night left me very tired, but hope to do a bit more candle-making later on. I did some yesterday, and my large box of recycled wax is starting to go down nicely.

I've been asked to attend a couple of events in the (fairly) near future - a Beltane celebration on May 2nd, and an American-themed evening with Mensa on July 4th; I'm trying to decide whether to go to one/either, as I fear my social phobia will kick in big-time.

Other than that, Mr LW has arranged an appointment with the audiologist on April 30th. I wasn't due a check-up til July, but I'm losing the higher-pitched sounds, so I think my hearing aid needs its program tweaking. Maybe I'll feel a bit easier about socialising after that. *looks up* Oh look, a flying pig.:D

Veggie bangers'n'mash for dins tonight, as I have some spuds that want using up and can't be a*sed doing anything complicated.

Mr LW has to w*rk, albeit from home, all weekend, so we can't go anywwhere at all - may try to tackle some of the spring cleaning jobs, if he's able to leave the computer for a few mins here and there to lift things for me.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

    Afternoon all
    Welcome & hugs to Doelani
Just had a visit from both DD's with DGD & DGS, we took the lodger for a walk, along the river & took bread to feed the ducks, big mistake!!! The lodger went after the bread & nearly pulled me into the shallows, DGS thought it was so funny, especially when I fell over & ended up sitting in the mud, lol. When the lodger gets excited she runs round in circles & throws herself bodily into us, she only did it to me & to DD who is a dog owner, she seemed to know not to do it to DGS who is only 4. The family have now gone home & the lodger is snoring soundly on her bed.
So far I am still ignoring the bedroom of doom, I shall have a cuppa & then attack it. I also need to wipe up all the muddy footprints from our walk, thank heavens for laminate flooring.
    Have a good afternoon everyone
    Hugs Hester

    Hi everyone!

What funny weather this week eh? wednesday the kids were jumping in water fountains in the park in glorious sun and now its cold and wet.

Yesterday we went to Kidspace in Romford, got there early (as advised) kids loved it! is it me or are these play area thingys getting so expensive? £7.95 per child and £2.50 for adult to attend? suppose thats to give old Richard Farley (Dragons den) a good retirement:rolleyes::rotfl:

Finally taken DD to the hairdresser this morning, so she no longer looks like cousin IT from adams family!:rotfl:

If the weather stays fine/dry we are off to the allotment soon to plant some runner beans (with the neigbour) and then off to their horse riding lesson afterwards.

Sainsburys have their barbeque ribs reduced to £1.99 so got some of those for tea, with jackets, sourcream and onion rings! yum

JackieO - I heard that the Nat History Mus was heaving this week! enjoy your holiday.

have a great day all xx

Edit: Just reading yesterdays thread and wanted to wish Miss PennyPenguin Happy Birthday!!! have a great time at Wicked! xx - how's the chickens??

    Afternoon everyone:hello:

Horrible, miserable weather here. Dd is playing out with the neighbour kids (not actually raining at the mo) and ds1+2 are reading and doing homework:T

I haven't done much OS stuff today. Me and dd made a banana cake with the over-ripe bananas I had in the freezer. We put some chunks of chocolate in it. I know how important it is these days to teach kids to cook, but boy, do I hate it:rotfl::rolleyes:

I loathe anyone 'helping' in the kitchen and the kids' approach to cooking is to look in cookbooks and say 'I want to make that' whereas my approach to cooking is to look in my cupboards and fridge and say 'what can I make with what I have?'

I should really teach this skill to them. Being able to cook is so much more than buying ingredients for a recipe and following it. Perhaps I should just ask each child to help me with the evening meal in turn and to explain why I'm cooking what I'm cooking as well as how to cook it.

Breakfast today was just toast. It is usually just toast in the hols. I'm much better at breakfast when they're at school -I'm awake to cook it for a start:rotfl:

Lunch was salady stuff, hummus, cheese, ham to put in a wrap. I bought some lavash bread from Sainsbury's. These are very thin wraps from the Levant that are folded up. When we unfolded them they were huuuge, the size of a tea tray. The kids thought they were funny but a bit chewy. I don't think I'll bother with them again.

Supper will be sausages and leftover chicken gravy, baked potatoes and veg.
