Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning folks.
It's Friday and the sun is back out and all is well. I had the week off so no last day of work feeling for me, but a nice relaxing morning I hope. My daughter has worked all week as it's college hols, so she wants to go to Plymouth and spend money. The missus will go too, as if there is a chance to buy something then.... need I say more. So I am going to have a quiet day here...pottering. Sad really that I have reached the age to potter and that I even enjoy it!
Trying to clear out the fridge and freezer of old food and eat that up, before buying more. Too much waste otherwise.
Our house guests have gone back to N Yorks, so we are pretty well back to normal. Have a nice day and I hope you can slide in to the weekend with happy things going on
cheers

Good Morning Chums ,I was hoping for a sunny day here in the Medway as I have some washing to dry but at the moment its raining.Well I have had a busy week.I went to the Natural History Museum in London on Wednesday with my DD and five grandchildren and we did nothing but queue for everything. The kids loved it but it was very exhausting. We took a picnic thank goodness as the prices were pretty steep in the cafe there.Luckily the weather was kind so we didn't get as wet as we did yesterday when we went down to Herne Bay. Lovely little museum there though and the children loved looking at the old-fashioned stuff that were used in times gone by. A lot of which I remember having as a child !!! the weather cheered up a bit after lunch and we managed to have a good long walk along the beach, very bracing.
DD has been laid off from her job ,but swiftly managed to get re-instated in the 'pool' at the Dockyard. She used to work there last year and had left to join her new employer. She will only get the odd day here and there, but at least its work and she always enjoyed working there as a tour guide.
I'm off on my holidays tomorrow to the Derbyshire dales.I'm staying at a place called Hope and my friend and I are doing some family history research at nearby Outherbridge just outside Sheffield.
Hopefully the weather will brighten up a bit, but it's not that important as a nice break and different surroundings are what we have been looking for .Apparently the cottage has a facility of a heated swimming pool, so another added bonus.
I hope you all have a good week and I shall be back next weekend, no doubt bright-eyed & bushey-tailed and ready to start my big 'spring clean'
<<hugs to those who need them>> and see you all in a weeks time.
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Morning N9eav and all who follow :j
Well it's a miserable morning here today, still the garden's getting a good watering
Day off today :j A mega day of housework planned, not least sorting out the floordrobesOther tasks will include pressing DH's suit, making cherry bakewell cake and ironing Mt Everest.
Haven't decided what's for dinner tonight except it will be something with chicken breasts, hmm maybe potato dauphinoise and green beans
Have a lovely day everyoneSquares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Morning N9eav, and all to follow, N9eav, one of my favoutire things is to potter at home, it does not mean we are getting old, just mauturing like a good bottle of wine
Off to work today, still last day for the weekend, dd is off on a sleepover tonight, so I have to drop her off at my mums this morning, so that mum can take dd to the station later, dd is sleeping at a friends house with 8 other girls, in a huge summer house in the garden, I am a bit worried about it tbh, but I have been assured that it it safe.
Not sure what to do for tea, we were having pizza, but may change it to something more grown up, now its just the two of us.
Need to s + s before work, and hoover through when I get back, and put a wash on.
Oh I meant to say to sybil, my best friends husband was the little boy in the 'listen with mother'( or something like that) books, his mum sat at home writting them, and he has the whole series of books at home, things like, ' mark goes to the densist' or 'mark goes to the Dr' they are great and give him a lovely reminder of his childhood, go for it, even if its just in diary form to give to LB in later years.
Have good days all xx
Edited to say, Jackieo, hope you have a good holiday xx0 -
Morning all
I can vouch for JackieO, it's very wet and miserable here in Kent.
Have my blood test this morning so haven't had a bite to eat since 5pm last night and my tummy is rumbling away here. It's a glucose test so have to sit there for 2 hours after a glucose drink for another blood test for them to compare. I will be as weak as a kitten by then  My hairdresser has snapped her achilles heel and will be out of action for quite a while so went to a local hairdressers for a trim. DISASTER I look like I have been dragged through a hedge backwards permanently, its too short and sticks up and out everywhere. Do you think a sprinkling of compost will make it grow quicker, or a rinse with Baby Bio perhaps ?
Must have a dust and a tidy round when I get back from the hospital, place has a nice coating of dust everywhere. Don't know what's for dinner yet, will go and have a look in the freezer and see what I can find to go with potatoes and cauliflower. Cupboard is a bit bare at the mo till I go shopping tomorrow. I know what I will be having to eat when I get back cos I have just set the BM up for a spicy fruit loaf, mmmmm still warm, am addicted to that at the mo.
Hope you all have a good day
PS - Another vote here for WS to become a chldren's author, and probably for us adults too. Your exploits and the way you write them would go down a storm. A magazine column would be perfect for you too I think0 -
Morning All
Have a great break JackieO
The weather is terrible again here today which is a pity as I have so much washing to do! Hopefully the kids will occupy themselves and OH & I will have a major housework day as he wont be able to get out in the garden.
Enjoyed the film yesterday and popped into a new Homesense store only had a quick mooch and bought at Brita fridge water chiller, think will go back there one day when the kids are back at a school. However the Harvester was terrible - food not nice, restaurant quite grotty and too few staff rushed off their feet. Seemed to be quite a few people enjoying their food but we certainly didnt. Will out that one down to experience and not bother again.
No idea whats for dinner tonight will be another surprise out of the freezer.
Off now to make another cuppa then attack the housework.

Morning all
It's lashing down here today, so the washing will have to go on the maiden. Still if it stays wet it may persuade me to make a start on the bedroom of doom.
WS I have a couple of pairs of shoes I can't walk in & also a pair of black leather thigh high boots, all I can do is stand around looking decorative, but it works for us, lol.
Hubby has been asked to do yet another week at work, such good news as BIL has no large jobs on til June & all the little jobs he's taking his son with him as he is also out of work.
Breakfast - museli
Lunch - peanut butter sarnies
Tea - pork chop
I hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Morning peeps
another cold and nasty one i`m afraid, the wind here is pretty amazing but no rain as of yet, i shall be sneaking out with the houndies shortly and shall get well wrapped up against the cold.
Rosyred - I think that you are right about hair and the certain age thing, mine always used to look ok no matter what but for the last couple of years it dosen`t seem to belong to me anymore
Doelani - Welcome, sorry to hear of your loss. We are all here to help and give support.
Nic - Glad the hock turned out wellthey are a regular on our shopping list now.
Today i shall try and fit in a bit more ironing before w*rk, it`s slowly but surely disappearing, i have a chilli to make for tea later which we shall have with jacket potatoes. We need something rather warming this weather. The monsters are looking at me with huge pleading eyes so i`d better go and get my coat on
Catch up later peeps, have a great day.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
DD&D - so sorry you are having a bad time, hope things get better for you soon.
Thank you for all your kind words. I shall have to keep up to my blog, and that is great for me.
LB is not his normal sunny self - I suspect the additives in the Calpol are not agreeing with him. Instead of the normal civil disobedience and distraction techniques I am getting grumps. So I am dreading taking him out to pick up a prescription, but I have to get it done. I was really good getting out on Tuesday, but I am not so sure today.
So, today I am going to try and get the kitchen looking less like a bombed refugee camp and I also want to try and fill the recycle bin, and wash and wash and wash.
Hugs to allAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Mornng everyone,
Jackie, enjoy your holiday!
Chrisca, good luck with your glucose tolerance test.
I didn't sleep well last night and have wakened with a really sore head. It's overcast here but no rain so hopefully I'll get this load of washing onto the line to dry. I'm hoping to fit in a visit to the garden centre to pick up a few bits and pieces and then spend the day in the garden. I usually buy free range eggs from the supermarket but got some from a local farm shop earlier this week...1.60 per dozen. I can't believe the difference in taste. Even the children commented that they tasted much better so I want to go and get some more today.
Off to make coffee and try to waken up properly. Have a good day everyone
