  • wow that sounds great - got the slow cooker and only used it three times so far - with Xmas and all,

    1. Porridge over night - yummy
    2. was a lentil, veg casserole - made it up myself but it came out fine
    3. Had cabbage leftover so made some sort of bubble and squeak which was yum, there is so much of it, that I am going to fry the left over like patties tomorrow and we are going to have it with a fried egg and some salad.

So far - I love it!
  • Probably a silly question but can anyone explain how i can make porridge in my slow cooker overnight.

It would be great to get up on winter mornings and have it ready and waiting :)

    Thanks in advance
  • I put one measure of oats and three measures of water into the slow cooker, you can add salt but I never do, we always have ours with dried fruit (simply because I made so much in summer) so I added that as well. I set in on low and it was absolutely yummy.

I added a splash of full fat milk in the morning in each bowl and my dh always puts sugar on his...
  • thanks frenchmaid i will try that
  • for those looking a cheapy, it seems argos have one for £8 at the moment!
  • I have to say I love my slow cooker - have made an upside down sponge cake it in yesterday which is yummy and now frozen in portions for DH snack attacks..

Can you do anything with rice in a slowcook?

Are there any good slow cook books.

    I need help!!!

I'm hoping to make quite a big quantity and freeze some.

    Thanks in advance

  • I got this book for Christmas:

125 best vegetarian slow cooker recipes

I've tried several things from the book, which have all turned out really well.

It does have recipes which include rice (I've not tried those, however).

I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.
  • Thank you Pandora that's really helpful. I'll try and get a copy.

    Cheers x

  • I'm sure easy-cook rice is best for cooking in a slow cooker (that said, short grain cooks well in a rice pud!).
