    Hi FrenchMaid,

    This older thread may help:

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the replies together.

  • I saw the slow cooker in a local electricity shop that is having a clear out due to refurbishment.

I will be getting it today, for £10 I've got not much to lose.

Thanks for all the tips and advice...

I'm veggie and have just got a mini slow cooker from Lakeland, and am making soup now-have a couple of second hand recipe books coming my way next week, so will post any useful vegetarian recipes once I have tested them!

we are a veggie family and i've been using my small sized slow cooker for about 3 years now, on and off. It is great for soups, but i find that the best use is when i have to steam nut/bean-type roasts (which we have quite a lot here!).

I find the texture comes out far better than when i've previously roasted in the oven, or microwaved. I make up the loaf mixture (which can be just about anything i find in the fridge!)..chopped into small bits and cooked on the hob for a while.
Then my mix is all pressed firmly into a pudding bowl, covered in foil and 'slow cookered' on low for about 6 - 8 hours (or overnight).
Once cooled, it can be carefully eased out upside down and slices like a dream!

yes..freezes very well indeed. I usually chop the whole pudding shaped loaf in half, and then freeze it, so that it will do 2 separate meals for us (3 adults).
