Air Asia - Anyone travelled Stanstead to KL?

Hi

We are due to be travelling from Stanstead to KL with Air Asia in May, and was wondering if anyone had experience of doing the long haul flight with Air Asia. My hsuband and I are travelling with our 4 year old and 15 month old. We've paid the extra for the bassinet seats, which will hopefully handy with the little one.

Are they strict on the luggae allowance? I have two x 15kg and 1 x 20kg allowance for all of us but am wondering if that will be enough as outgoing we have all the extra nappies, baby milk/food etc.

Any comments appreciated

TIA

I'm curious about this too - there isn't very much info about the aircraft that fly to Stansted (formerly with Air Canada). However the cabins in the new aircraft that they fly to Perth look amazing - http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/trip_reports/read.main/145399/

As they are a "low cost" carrier, I would assume they will be quite strict with the luggage allowances.

Don't know, as I stayed close to my 25 kg luggage allowance(actually I had 25.6 kg) luggage allowance. Missed my original flight so bought a new ticket with them to get back to the UK.

I chose a good seat position, so it was fine. They rent out PMPs for around six pounds for inflight entertainment.
They also sell inflight sleeping kits including a blanket and a pillow.

I had my own travel blanket and entertainment, so I didn't need to cough up...

Saw some trying to move into the paid for seats after take off and they were promptly repelled.

Havn't done the long haul sectors but short haul several times. First time I got through with an extra 5 kilos with a smile.

Couple of weeks ago I was OK, but everyone who was an eeny bit over their limit was being strictly charged, which I gather is now the norm.

Have a good holiday & we hope that you can come back & let us know your verdict on airasia flt to KL. Flt to KL is 13 hours. They only serve 1 MEAL!! by the look of it when we book our flt.

Maybe take some snapshot of the internal aircraft, food menu:rotfl: (btw, heard that the food is rubbish). Oh also dont worry abt taking your own sandwich on board even though their T&C states no outside food. They cant stop you. The only ppl allowed to scan & check your hand luggage is the airport security & not the airline/cabin crew (remember that).

As usual no liquid allowed. But I think u can buy drinks from the duty free shop (not sure).

whats PMPs? How many time (entertainment) do they allowed for £6 fee? We paid mixed seats as some the £20 seat already taken. Do you think the £20 seat value for money? I heard that the flt to australia are cattle seats. Not sure abt the flt to KL.

    thanks

  • Just returned on Air Asia from KL last night Not to bad as airlines go fly direct, seats are better than most for leg room and pitch, however it is a 14 hour flight.it would be hard to find any seats being comfortable for that long The food is not great but reasonably priced. They did not seem that strict with baggage weight and lots of people took on large amounts of hand luggage. In flight entertainment was quickly all sold out so if you would like some ask early. we also used interconnecting flights from KL to Bali very cheap and no problems

Whats the cabin crew like? Are they friendly or they never seem to be around when u need them? Do they plaster their face with 10" thick of foundation :rotfl:.

Is the seat reclineable, u know like a proper airline ie : BA, Cathay, Malaysia Airline, etc? I heard that the seat to Australia is fixed & u cannot adjust it. Is it the same for LONDON flt?

Food :- hmm., difficult one really - that is if you are Malaysian than u will not like (Lon-KL) malaysian meal, so go for continental meal.

KL-Lon - if u r foreigner u might like to try the Malaysian meal as they are prepared by the malaysian caterer.

    Another thing :-

Dont make the same mistake as I did. Dont book the airport bus to KL Central even though it only cost £2.each way/pax. I found out that it will take minimum 1 hour to arr at KL central. Take a taxi if more than 2 pax. My friend has offered to pick us up from the airport even though I have paid £20 return fare for the bus.

PMP = Portable Media Player. You keep it until the aeroplane is going to land.

The seat pitch and the leg room seemed adequate. Maybe a 33" inch seat pitch. seats recline as normal.

I sat in the front row so can't comment of the comfort of the inner seating.

It's two meals per flight. One Malaysian and one western. You can also purchase them onboard. Didn't look too bad. Better than EVA's efforts. :)

Staff were too busy selling stuff for me to evaluate their friendliness. but I had no problems.

Would I fly with them again? Certainly, if the price is right.

OH works for the company that caters the flights from STN. He loves the crew. Out of all the airlines he works with he says the Air Asia crew are really polite and friendly (I won't name the worse;))
