I know they most definately have a monopoly on this, but £57 to go to a graduation ball?

My ticket for my grad ball was £60! They booked out a function room at a 4-5* hotel and there is a 3 course dinner (not at all fancy), music, a mini casino and some chocolate fountain (bit tacky). lol. I am just going because my friends are, and I hope because of them the evening will be fun ;-)0

Just been looking at my uni's grad site (not yet up properly as they've not sorted it) but you can buy a scarf (like one you wrap around your neck when it's cold) for only £29!!!
I can only imagine the cost of the ball/ ceremony.
Quite glad I shan't be going to mine!0 -
Bah thats about what I used to pay for my summer ball each year at Durham... Our finalists dinner was around the £20 mark from memory, but was just a 3 course meal in college + speaker and disco and a couple of other things.
Graduation costs to add up, accomidation, gown and hood hire, some uni's charge for tickets for the parents, photos, etc etc. Its worth looking at now so you can budget. Or so you can make it clear what you will pay for, i.e. I covered accomidation, gown hire for myself but my parents really wanted the professional photographs so they paid for them....0 -
Ours was 65 pounds, we had the Foundations and the Hoosiers but still a bit steep.0

Peanuts compared to what most people pay for a wedding, and your graduate status will last for longer than the typical marriage. Well worth a splurge!0

Manchester University don't even bother organising a ball, because they can't make enough profit from it at £50 a ticket!0

Is the Graduation Ball organised by students then? There's a facebook group for the Manchester University Graduation Ball on the 18th June.
yep, its completely student organised without any help from the university. which is why its not located in central manchester i think, with cost of venues there.0 -
Mine is £65.0

My graduation ball tickets were £70, the ball was hours journey away from the university so train tickets were about £15 or so, then it was too late to travel back afterwards so hotel accomodation came on top of that. The drinks were extortionatly priced too! There was a photographer taking each persons photo as they arrived and these were about £12 to buy.
So in the end it was a very expensive night BUT I wouldn't have missed it for the world. For me, at least, it symbolised the end of three years of hard work and was one last party with all the friends I had made before we all went our seperate ways.0
