As a matter of interest, if I wanted to sell a ladies scarf or belt for example, which would fall in the 'accessories' category (free postage) is there any reason I couldn't just list it in the 'clothing' category? Not quite the correct category but I'm sure the majority of buyers would find it through a specific search.

AS others have said you'd lose your account after a few warnings anyway.

However, with all this daft 'best match' search I often browse categories now to get bargains, so would never see an item in the wrong place. For instance I was looking for books on a particular subject, most do not have that subject in the title so I merely searched 'non fiction books ending soonest', found some I wanted and bought them. Looking later at completed searches under book titles I noticed several I had missed that were placed in other categories so that they could get round the postage cap. Daft sellers went without a sale as there was no way anyone would have found their book as the titles were nothing to do with the subject in hand.

I recently browsed all ladies bags ending soonest as well, and many of them were listed without the word 'bag' in the title at all so if they had bene in the wrong category I would never have seen them.

back to books though, just go and see how many you can find in the wrong category, the same with DVDs, mostly going unsold as they never get seen.

Add £2.15 to your start prices then to cover the P&P as well as the increased fees.

Wouldn't this put buyers off even bidding to start with?

  • Is it just me - I have NEVER understood why people complain about p&p charges on Ebay.

They are there, clear as day - it is your responsibility to factor it into your maximum bid calculation.

I paid £4 for my wedding dress from China with £89 postage. To me, paying under a hundred quid for a custom made gown seemed like the bargain of the century (amazing dress by the way ;)) but the seller had negative feedback for high postage costs!

Every item I have listed has a big, red disclaimer by it: if you disagree with my postage charges, do not bid! Well, a little more flowery than that but it gets the point across.

This is Ebay trying to get more fees - end of story.

Free p&p has never encouraged me to buy - I look at the overall combined cost. It doesn't take a genius to work out - so Ebay must assume that we are all morons

Hi, The free postage doesnt affect me yet but I was wondering what happens if you usually combine postage on your stuff.

For example alot of my sale are multiple items because i will just add the price of the addition item on to the original postage says 20p or 40p but if i have to include the price of postage in the item i cant do this.

I know i could refund them after but most people want the discount before they pay. I cant set up a standard discount because no 2 items will be the same postage.

There is probably a really easy way to get round this but I cant think what.

Interestingly I had some cheap items that I havent been able to shift. So yestaday I re listed them at a BIN price with free P&P. Both items have now sold. By doing this i've ended up with more profit than I could have got with the auction and charging P&P

    It could be a coincidence
