Off-topic, but I have an old death insurance certificate for £3000 issued as a freebie by the West Brom. Have just read the small print which says that this insurance is valid as long as the insured is a customer of West Brom. Anybody know anything about this insurance?

Only found this post by accident in the middle of all the others - you might get more response if you started a new thread. However, I know a little bit about this.

If it is the one issued by the West Brom with "Commercial Union Assurance Company plc" on it, this is the same as the one I have.

This was sent out in November 1997 when the Privileged Membership was first introduced. But CU no longer exists as a separate company and I don't know if the cover still applies.

    Projected date I become a millionaire: 29th February 2016
Projected age I can afford to retire: 85 years 7 months
(Both figures calculated using Mr. Darling's financial modelling system)

    just a wee aside,

so, will you be a millionaire before you can retire, or will you have to work on a bit after becoming a millionaire?

Is the interest from West Brom paid gross or net and can they pay it gross?
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

Paid net of tax @ 20%, but you could have it paid gross if you were a non-taxpayer.

    Thanks.
So is there a box to tick for non tax payers during the sign up procedure?

I imagine you'd need to complete an R85.

Following the Bank of England's latest figures, I'll have to change my projection and now calculate I'll be retiring when I reach 132 years old (by which time a million pounds will just about cover a week's shopping).

The West Brom website is now showing that ebond 22 has been withdrawn and replaced with ebond 23:

    http://www.westbrom.co.uk/westbrom/savings.product?id=4604&FROM_CAMPAIGN=true&CAMPAIGN_SRC=HOME_PAGE

The rate is 4.27% with a maturity date of 30th Sept 2010. Min investment is still £5000 but monthly interest is only for those putting in £50,000 or more.
