But Avira has a FAR better detection rate then AVG and doesnt slow the system down
Avast is another option which DOES have email scanning as standard

    Your call

Well as I said ~ its not important AT all so long as your willing to put any dodgy looking attachments on your desktop and scan them seperately

And even if AVG CAN scan them ~ it has a poor detection rate so it might miss them even though it scans automatically

At the end of the day ~ if someone you know and trust has sent a picture to JUST you or whatever then its very unlikely to have a virus/trojan so you can open them regardless

I only scan what im a little unsure of

Ive used Avira for about 8 months now and have no intentions whatsoever of going back to Avast (And CERTAINLY not AVG)

I would not even trust the best of friends. They could be unknowingly infected and send you an attachment containing a virus. You are right it is less likely but it is not impossible.

I agree with the statement above. Many a worm will scan an infected PC's email address book and then forward copies of itself to everyone it finds. Of course if the person who sent you the image has told you in advance of their intention to do so, then thats different. But everything else should be treated with a healthy dose of skepticism.

    COMODO for me.

Never had a virus - run it on two machnes - XP and Vista.

The free version gives you AV and Firewall.

You can pay for extras if you want them but I am happy with the free version.

  • Hi.
Just to say that I kicked AVG into touch and Installed Avira, and on the first scan it did as soon as it had been installed it found a virus which AVG had missed and there was only a matter of minutes in the change over so I don't think I had a virus attack in that time, now the computer is running much faster.
Going a bit off topic, can I ask is it o.k to run Windows Defender as well as Avira?.
Thanks for any help would be welcome.

defender and avira are completely different programs. avira deals with viruses and defender deals with spyware.

its fine to have both running
