European literature and historical documents are full of ignorant throwaway statements criticising other people for being different, even though it usually only comes down to the shape of their nose or the colour of their hair. But then you get periods of peace which were usually brought about because noble or royal families inter-married across the continent, and yes, that did include ours. Then you look at the 'flexible geography', by which I mean that the borders of twelfth-century 'Britain' in no way resemble Britain's contemporary borders. Did you know, for example, that for hundreds of years south-west France (where Bordeaux is) was part of England? Even though the rest of France was not? But is someone born in Bordeaux today, to descendents of the English families who lived there then, entitled to take British citizenship? No, of course not. It's all an inter-mingled mess, and we can't deny it.
It's also a nonsensical question because I couldn't care less about football, or any other sport for that matter. I don't mind other people supporting a particular team, but not if it gets to the 'down with you frogs' stage - there's never any excuse for nationalistic abuse.
To be honest, I try to avoid answering such questions as much as possible, as I don't care much for the inferences people make from any answer I give. However, if pressed, I would say I have a British passport (note not 'I am British'), but yes I do consider myself European above British, English, or anything else.
blimey. i've learnt more from that post than 10 years of history lessons. mind you most of them were spent with "miss middleton". i couldn't really concentrate too much on them lessons due to size of her chest.
Everytime she wrote on the board you had to write it down quick. if not when her body past it the text would be rubbed off... if only interactive whiteboards had been invented then... IF ONLY!!!0 -

I don't see the connection. Again, this is just a sensationalist comment to grab attention but which has no substance. French fishermen do not act in the way they do because they look down on the British, they do it because it's the most effective way to draw attention to what they believe to be their legitimate clause. The fact that the British panic so much and get so frustrated that they join the fight to force the French government into submission serves only to prove them right, doesn't it?0 -

If by thinking for myself and not considering other people to be beneath me and by refusing to accept that in order to be British I have to hate everyone else and think I'm better than they are I am made weird, then so be it. Frankly it's more a stain on your part of British society than mine if that is so.0 -
