With my dog the thing that worries me is the second time he went for this they called him "aggressive" and suggested that we have him PTS if he does not change. They offered us to see a vet behavioural therapist and said that he really needed his aggression sorted. I know he does go wild and we did have to wrestle him like a croc to get the muzzle on (cause he was not used to it) but after some hours of training here it goes on quite easy but he does struggle once its on and has to be pinned down for any vet to get close to him. He can be sedated though and they were worried about whether he would sedate as some dogs don't. He cannot be muzzled though after these eye ops cause the muzzle squashes the eyes so much and it would most probably damage things but he does NEED to be muzzled. I just don't want to have to have him pts because he won't let anyone treat him if this goes on. He is lovely and although not the easiest dog out there and lots would have got rid WE love him too much. I would sell all my belongings for him if needed. He is sitting here now with one normal eye and one stained green eye and looking so sweet as if he knows I am talking about him. I just cannot think of life without him now. I fill up at the thought. He is not so aggressive as they think he is - well not with us anyway. He does not like strangers and finds the vets horrid but I thought most dogs did. They have him all wrong. Their pet behaviourist mentioned the PTS to us.
That is so sad what they said about PTS, I must admit when I read this I got rather choked up, the thing is your dog is probably petrified of the vets and he is bound to react this way.
I know exactly what you mean, he is part of the family and that is it, you can't part that easily, the thought of it - its heartbreaking to think of it.
And your doing the right thing anyway, its not as if you let him run around on his own in the streets and so on, you look after him and obviously doing a very good job of it.;)
Some dogs can take to strangers and others can't, but the main thing is he is a loving family dog and he knows you love him like he does you, so he is protective over you also.;)
Dai wanted a Doberman a few years ago, his mate breeds them, but it doesn't look its going to happen while we have a cat lol, otherwise he will be dinner as well......The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

5-year-old Russian girl 'raised by cats and dogs'
A 5-year-old Russian girl has been has placed in state custody after being found alone in a flat filled with cats and dogs and imitating the animals' behavior.
Police in the Transbaikal region of Siberia said Wednesday that the girl was kept shut up with the animals in a filthy flat in the regional capital of Chita, where she lived with relatives, including her father and grandparents.
Larisa Popova, head of the children's affairs unit at the local police precinct, told state-run Rossiya television that the girl had developed feral characteristics.
"The child lived in unsanitary conditions. There was a horrible stench," Popova said. "There were many animals - both dogs and cats. In all probability, the girl lived with and was raised by these animals."
Police said the girl understands Russian but rarely speaks and they are gathering evidence to support neglect charges.
Nina Yemelyanova, head of the reception department at a children's home where the girl has been placed, said the child appears to mimic the behavior of animals.
"Today, when I left the room, she jumped up to the door and started to bark," Yemelyanova told Rossiya television. "And she does not know how to behave at the table - when she eats, she tries to put the spoon aside and lap from the dish."
