When you say emergency help I would think that would be the hospital that you mean? Surely you could call 999 in an emergency and get just the home help that most of the elderly round here have. They also have meals on wheels and help getting dressed etc. Would that be what you mean. I know a few of our neighbours (a lady across the road) had nurses in twice a day to help with getting up, getting dressed etc (her hubby had parkinsons and he was bed bound in their living room for years - unfortunately died a couple of years ago but she did have my hubby and other neighbours help sometimes if she needed someone quick) and then the rest was left to them but if they needed emergency treatment then they called an ambulance.

    Thanks Marshallka.;)

Basically we have a paper information here from SS that includes what is on offer for familiies and carers for a family member who has dementia, my dad already has a life line machine which was installed about a year ago, this is for things like if he as a fall and things like that, so yeah an ambulance etc.
This is separate to the SS, but on the SS package, they look into ways for what help they can provide, where this would be just for the day or the night time or both.

When taking to SS, she said as mum also has issues they do cater for 24/7 help packages, but to do this he needs an assessment, more so for dad.
When talking to dad's CPN, he said last week that if SS allow this they can do this at home but it is down to them in how they want this dealt with, so basically this involves a team, such as an Occupational therapist, himself, SS and his consultant etc, but they also state, because he has a number of medical problems it could take some time.

It is coming to the stage though that dad is asking questions, as at times he can talk quite logically, so asks why on earth is he still there, then getting himself worked up and so on, then the day after he can be calm again, but very confused etc.
The SS when seen dad, said the other day when talking to her that he is in urgent need of a bed to get an assessment done, because when she have been to assess him at the hospital stating how distressed and a very confused man he was.

The quicker they get this bed the better, but as its going on considering they class it as urgent and in need of the next bed, its getting more distressing.

I have a feeling the SS are going to see dad today again.

Something was once mentioned about "befrienders" home care.

I was talking to my mate Angela the other day, she said the same thing happened with her dad as well, but he did not wander so much, they were eventually funded a home package with SS emergency line.;)

Hi hun you know hun if your mum is happy to have your dad home and she can cope, providing you can get the help he and your mum need, its sounds like that might be the best route hun. It will be better fro your dad if he was in his own familiar surroundings, dont you think? if you havent done so it might be going down that route hun and seeing if they will do this from home instead. It will be more appropriate to do an assessment from home if thats where your dad is going to from the hospital. lus he will then be able to move from the hospital sooner. I hope you understand what I am saying:confused::D

    Thanks Di.;)

Yes this is another thing that SS did say, she said he is a very confused man, and needs to see the same faces, but as you know in these big hospitals there are different staff all the time with agency staff, this does not help, at least though the local dementia unit have the same staff as such, obviously shifts but they are only a small unit.
She said she noticed when family were there he was a lot calmer.

Think they worry that he gets too worked up because of his heart attack he had last year.

His CPN said there are ways around this, but see what the SS suggest as well, but as far as I know they wanted the move to happen as quick as possible so that the team can get on straight away with the assessment, this will also involve family meetings.
You have made a good point though di, cheers. XXx

Hope you can get your dad back home with the help he and your mum need, that sounds like a good idea for him. Also hope he doesnt have to wait for a bed for this assessment and they could do it at home. xx Much love and support for you and your family as always.xx
