Markets have me in two minds at the moment. The big corporates that are reporting are fairly flat on the whole. Never thought I see GSK become an income stock. Recent movements suggest the banks aren't going to report well.

So it's back to digging around in the minnows pool. Small well run UK AIM stocks where the business is transparent and the accounts hold no mystery.

Yes we live in interesting times.

There must be some good performers in the 250 as this fund is near the top of my performance over the last few years, though as to whether they might now be overvalued is an interesting point.

Smaller companies have done so well recently are they in for a fall?

Tempted by large stocks as the 100 is down so much over the last couple of months, who knows whether this is the best time to jump in, though certainly lower if not at their lowest.

I wonder if anyone is going to produce an 'ex banks' fund, they are supposed to be solid businesses but whenever they seem to start making solid profits there's another exceptional item reported.

Interesting piece in the Telegraph saying FTSE 100 derives 33% of its earnings from Emerging Markets, so many investors already have more Emerging Market exposure than they realise
(If I had known that last year I might have saved money by not buying Emerging Market Investment Trusts :o )

I suppose it's all in the interpretation.

The weight of oil and mining firms in there mean that their extraction and production facilities will be based in emerging markets but just related to commodity prices.

they earn money in $, report in rupees, and the share price is in £. Now, what is the possibility of exchange rates impacting that lot.

 yes quite a minefield, Im not sure they are so stupid in all. It is tricky, someone on the forum works for them. They bought a UK port/refinery to bring over diesel as we have a deficit

Today 11% rise, from results I suppose. They have converted their debt to dollars which is slightly risky? but they could do better longer term

Profits would be nice, they are just 'vehicle' now, without any drive

Also KAZ up 17% because gov policy change. 30% of their stock has been shorted apparently

I sold some FRES ABG today. Gold done a bit better since year start. I bought DIA, who are LED with a bright future :D :j

With my tracker holdings, I was adding extra UK, EM and Pacific alongside. I'm about to switch to ETFs and may just keep it simple!

Very little profit growth in major stocks appears to be a recurrent theme at the moment. So many stocks offer good yields at the moment. But once interest rates rise will there be a correction. As individual stocks are reappraised.

Very strong rise in Essr, I guess it can recover 100. Though this price is not a full value I reckon, the people proposing to buy back the 22% floated will be getting a bargain if they do so

  • Bought bit of CAD, not sure if news is a reason to buy but the graph looked good from my limited view
It was exactly the same price last February without any revolution so I guess not really a bargain though they had a court case win since
