Is nickel important for much, I cant say I know anything about it. I noticed one of the funds I invested in recently is short of zinc, again Im not sure why. Maybe I could look at the charts later for an explanation.

Do you guys consider the underlying market much or just the company prospects
Nickel's primary role is in steel production and steel producers have been turning up their furnaces recently (hense the recent bullishness of stocks in that area and my comments on metallurgical coal re WTN & CZA). The price of nickel has rebounded strongly in the last 3 to 6 months and it is forecasted to be a shortfall of approx 10k tonnes this year (not sure what 10k relates to as a whole).

To answer the second part of your question... Yes, I lookout for commodities which are likely to be in demand either because of supply or delivery constraints.

With regard to TMC specifically, it has a vast resouce base (although they have only proven up a small percentage to JORC standards) and they were (are) grossly undervalued and I the price target mentioed by bobbyj should be easily achievable.

There is seperation though. I think TMC will increase in value but the medium term outlook for nickel is probably lower prices due to an increase in the number of nickel mines comming back onstream.
Took up Sarasin agrisar and investec resources . Investec has the idea of shorting crude and going long the major oil producers which seems reasonable as their reserves are likely undervalued
I hold Sarasin and CF Eclectica funds and agriculture, from crops through fertiliser, through to equipment is going to be the place to be (wow now I've done it). Even though potash is an abundant resource on the planet there is already fears of growing concerns around longer-term constraints in the supply market.

I keep monitoring SKR as a possible investment.

I don't want to turn this thread in to a commodities / PM related thread as I very much value the contributions / analysis on Forex, indexes, and other shares but.....

Interesting to read others peoples thoughts on what China really wants (not gold but base resources), and how some people still see gold stocks as very undervalued. Also how the emerging economies are cherry picking developed nations stocks.

re TMC, the mere fact RICK RULE bought in several weeks ago as he's probably the finest mining investor to have walked the planet speaks volumes. Also they are gaining JORC which basically gives their resource credibility so to speak. The shares can be very volatile so if you are of a nervous disposition don't go near. Personally I think they should be an awesome recovery story from here. A few very shrewd players have joined the share registar this last year. My target is multiples of the current price but I think a takeover will materialise before it gets to the kind of price I want. An announcement on the resumption of mining seems due which could well see some action.

TMC does have a JORC compliant resource but it only covers 288 hectares which if memory serves is probably only about 5% of their licence area. Minesite.com is very useful for providing info and company specific summay sheet.

US$ commencing its breakout to target the 83.3 - 84 area. Will be interesting to see how US indices react to this.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
