  • Just won £25 on bingo britain. I would reccomend this to everyone...it's amazing. The cash just keeps coming. That's £87 in less than a week!

I'll update my totals once I've withdrawn it and paid it to a card.

Day 1 of the quit. So far it's going ok but I've been awake less than 2 hours so no really bad cravings yet. I'm dreading them...

Hope everyone's having a lovely boxing day.

    Hi there
Can't think of any thing mind blowing, but if you drop a pm to fayjmck she is up north and can help with planting times.

But you also might want to put a want on freecycle as people often have a glut of plants to give a way.

Ref your OH. If ebay isn't getting done, could he do it? I know he is on DLA and may not be in good health, but could he do a few items a day? Have a look at turbolister on the ebay site. It is a free down load to be able to do more listing quicker.

Have you tried dooyoo and slice the pie for more money. Ok it takes a while and some effort, but will still help in the long run.

    good luck

  • Hi chevalier and fag ash lil (!)

Thanks for the encouragement. I need it right now. That's a good idea about OH taking charge of the ebaying. That could work. I don't know what slice the pie is but I'm off to find out.

I have quit smoking so many times I'm practically a pro. It's staying quit that's the problem. I always get to a point with it where I stop caring. I'm not bothered about black lungs and cancer and all that horrible stuff. I do sometimes feel that life is not worth living unless I can smoke. How pathetic is that? I don't know how to get past that stage. But I'm going to try.

Have a great day everyone. Hope the snow doesn't play havoc with your plans.

Can you put your ciggie money into a pot and then see how much you are saving and use it as a motivator?

  • I've paid £60 off the nasty card so my total is now under £9k and I'm thrilled to end the year like that. I have some more bingo money to go into my account yet, around £30 (I got another £3 today...better than nothing eh?), and I might put that towards my month's wage savings. I don't know yet.

Maybe I should take a break from all this for the holidays? :o

  • Hi lucielle...didn't see your post there. Yes, I think I need some kind of motivator. I smoke roll-ups and spend about £13 per week. I could round it up to £14, £2 per day and make sure I save that every day. It could be my special pot, half for debts and half for treats for me. :p

I'm worried about how to keep this quit going. Short term, I can do it. Long term, I've never managed very long at all. I don't have much faith in myself but I'm trying.

  • I've just read over my diary. It's sounding a bit confused. I seem to set challenges for myself, then forget all about them, set some more and forget those too. What's all that about? No wonder I'm not getting anywhere quickly!:rotfl:

In 2009 I challenged myself to pay off ALL the debt in 7 months . That is SO not going to hapen! I then started using the snowball which gave me dates of anywhere between April 2011 and 100 million years to debtfree-ness. :rotfl:

We made it to my pals wedding, by the way. It was superb, OH was on top form and my mum paid for a hotel room for us. It was the first night out we'd had in a year and we both loved every minute of it.

The debt has gone from 6k to 9k, via 10k then back down. So overall it's actually increased. However, we've also gone from being completely insolvent to actually being solvent again. :jThank god for that!

Anyway, it's been a mad year financially and I'm determined next year will go much more smoothly. It's not just about paying off the debt for me, it's learning to manage money. I remember reading books about personal finance years ago, getting really interested, then thinking it wasn't for me because that kind of thing was for people who have money. :D I think it's so true that if you don't manage your money, someone else will 'manage' it for you. Abbey, capital one and virgin have been in charge of mine for a good long while. But not anymore.

Here's to the new year and fresh starts.

  • I agree, if you can learn to manage your money the debt will start to come down but more importantly you will be in contol :D
