blech.... not such a good day here. OH went into work yesterday to be told he is surplus to requirements, and was sent home with a compromise agreement, so don't really know where to go from here.

    Awww hun, that's terrible...

Scuse my ignorance, but what's a compromise agreement mean exactly?

What kinda work was he in? Does he have a union or legal helpline or something he can get advice on?

    Morning All!

Still cold infected but not feeling awful - the coffee is working as usual :D but at least the weather is brightening up here!

Okay I may get shouted at for this but Spud - I know you want to lose weight but think hard before you take on such an extreme diet - ketosis can be very very damaging to your liver and kidneys in the long term - its a state that occurs to diabetics because their body cant create insulin to process glucose...

There have been literature studies to assess the effectiveness of low carb diets but mostly they have found that the weight loss is due to reduced calorie intake rather than the lack of carbohydrate:
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12684364?dopt=Abstract

So the same effect could be acheived (more slowly of course) through a sensible diet that doesnt leave you hungry all the time and is proven to be safe...

I know I could diet hun, but the thing is, I dont. Surely being obese is also damaging my body.

Hey don't hide Becky.....debate is good and I would hate to think I was imposing my opinions on anyone else...

I did a lot of research before i embarked on CD..including reading a lot of scientific based things....

My sister is very overweight and when she went on lighter life I was very very sceptical. It didn't work for her (she has bigger issues). However twelve months later I found myself going on a very similar diet.

It cannot be underestimated how food can make people feel or indeed rule their life. If it was a case of just eating healthily we would all be slim. I could quote calorie content carbs meal portion sizes etc etc till the cows come home - I know the theory just couldn't put it into practice.

It worked for me...it got me over the first hurdle of losing some weight - enough to give me the confidence to say no to food and make better choices for me.

Its convenience that keeps me on the CD at the minute...I have one for breakfast one for lunch and a nice meal at night...it is most certainly better than the chocolate and red bull diet I was on previously. I feel healthier and more awake, I have also lost my taste for processed food and take aways.....

Compromise agreement is where they give you a payoff in return for you not suing them...

  • Hi all.
I'm stuck here waiting for the folks to replace the water cylinder. No sign yet and I am supposed to go to a funeral at 2pm.
Feeling fed up today so I'll keep quiet. Generally demoralised plus I think I overdid it in the garden yesterday.
    Have a good day. x

noone would shout at you Becky! You're right Ketosis is an undesirable state of Diabetic as they don't produce their own insulin...

However on Cambridge ketosis is a desirable function and body is still producing it's own insulin so it's not dangerous (diabetics cannot do CD).... plus the body of an overweight person has a ready made fuel source in fat stores so does not *need* glycogen to burn... Cambridge speeds up the weight loss process by omitting the food-fuel burning stage, and staying in the fat-fuel burning stage by eliminiating unnecessary carbs from the diet...

It is radical, but i think we know that conventional diets don't work for everyone, and sometimes drastic measures are called for....

It's a 30 year old diet, sanctioned by BMA and strictly regulated by NICE guidelines etc... many hospitals use it as a VLCD plan for morbidly obese people preop... it really cannot be as dangerous as you state...

Plus there is the psychological side of things, it removes the relationship with food and means the person can hopefully re-educate themselves and avoid the same mistakes again...
