Grrrrr bad news:mad: - the update STILL won't install! I tried it standalone, not through the Windows Update button/function thingy, is that right?

Sorry to be a pain, but is there anything else to try?

No worries - I wouldn't have the first clue where to start!

Will hang on for next Combo Fix run...

    Ok

    Back to basics ~
Put the file on your desktop ready
    Disconnect from the net
    Stop avira from running
    Stop zonealarm from running
Switch off absolutely everything else you can (Including everything thats running in the tray)

    try the update again

I must admit im out of ideas. But its quite an important update ~

Im going to have to call quits on this one for now ~ sorry

    Try this;
    1. Save the updates in a public area of your computer (c:\ will do nicely).
    2. Open control panel and create a new adminstrative user. This link will help with creating the new account if you dont know how: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783
    3. Log off and then log on as the new user you just created.
    4. Then try installing the updates again.

Will it allow you to install now?

  • Also, could you post up your Windows Update Log file, it should tell us why its failing. To do this:
    1. Click START > RUN
    2. Copy and paste the following command (highlight red) into the RUN box and click OK: %windir%\windowsupdate.log
    3. Copy and paste the log into here, or if its a long one, just the last weeks worth.

May be worth trying to install the updates this way.

It suggest running the install with /overwriteoem parameter.

    Hope that helps.
