Hi teachergirl. Any more info? How did your hubby go on with the meter?
Sorry the response to your call was not that positive. Was it our consumption team you called? Did you discuss a check meter?
Markowen is right. If you are not satisfied when you call again ask for your complaint to be escalated.

Hi there Markowen58 and Malc.
Thank you for replying I had begun to feel quite lonely on this post. Here is an update. My poor hubby stayed up until 1.00am and read the meter. It hadn't moved by 8.00am so we now know that the daytime dial is not going around at night so that too can be ruled out.: I decided to phone the EOn consumption team again but not on a Saturday just in case they had weekend staff who were not as good as the weekday staff. However I still didn't make a lot of progress. This lady told me that my consumption should not be considered high.It is perfectly normal, why do I think it is high???? I told her about these forums and she was just a bit scathing.I didn't like to tell her that the nicest Eon people are talking to me on there!! Anyway we went through my appliances again but she just kept saying my consumption wasn't that high as I have 5 bedrooms..even though as I said two are not used so I don't really see what difference that makes. Anyway after much pushing I got her to tell me what her household consumption was(because she could not discuss what was average) it was 22KW a day for a six person household...we use 30KW + for a 4 person household. When I pointed this out to her she said ahhh but she made her family sit in the dark to save electricity!!!!!!!
There is no answer to this. Yes Malc I did discuss the meter but by this time I had begun to doubt myself. We are currently in credit by£150 so I am pretty sure we will use some of this to pay for it to be checked. It's just I don't really have any other ideas. I checked the government figures yesterday for consumption and we are at least double the national average according to that. I am just going to do a few more checks then I will go for the meter option. The lady did say that 99% of those that are checked have nothing wrong though.Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0 -
Hi
Just to let you have a comparison, with Eon too.
3 bed house - 3 Tv's ( all lcd's 1 big one) - 1 laptop - 1 fridge/freezer + 1 fridge (both old) - washing machine (used daily) - tumble dry (used sparingly, poss 1/2 times a week in winter) - power shower used daily by 2 kids and 2 adults. Wife at home during the day so that affects usage.
I just checked my winter quarter daily usage, 15kw.0 -
Thanks Jimexbox..we don't even have a big TV(hubby would like one though) or a power shower...(I would like one of those) and I would definitely like to be at home all day(Only working to pay the mortgage.) Thanks for you help the more I hear the more I think there has to be something wrong even if it isn't the meter.Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0

Something is seriously wrong. I have two kids who leave lights on all the time, I follow them round turning lights off. The big TV in the lounge is on virtually all day too, even if no one is watching the damn thing, its an expensive radio. I have to virtually drag them out the shower too. Im afraid saving electricity doesn't register with children.0 -
Is there such a thing as an electricity guzzling monster and how do I catch it??Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0

Do you manage your accounts online? I save an extra 8.1% by using their online option. Plus you can easily move between tariffs yourself.
As to your excessive energy consumption, you have to satisfy yourself that your lifestyle isn't the issue. Comparing your family size and general lifestyle will help in this regard. Then I would bite the bullet and get a test meter installed, for the sake of 90 quid it will give you the answer you seek. Plus I believe they refund you the cost of the test meter if your meter is faulty, Im sure an Eon rep will correct me if Im wrong.0 -
Yes I manage my accounts online and I have changed tariff so that I will pay less but it is the consumption that concerns me. We really don't have a lavish lifestyle.Although we have a play station and a wii the kids barely use them(no they aren't on standby.) Which is how the whole thread started in the first place. Yes you do get your money refunded if it is faulty and it will be worth it for peace of mind..I wonder if anyone else has ever had one fitted and if there was a fault.Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0
