  • How about cornflake/ricekrispie cakes. Spread on a tin and cut into squares once cool. Add marshmallows/smarties etc if you wish.

After the chocolate digestives have disappeard I am going to try and make my own cakes/biscuits for the kids. Figure it will be cheaper and slighty healthier! And will be good fun to do with them after school. x

DH really likes these - and they aren't baked - you use the stovetop and then let them cool in the fridge. So no heating up the oven.

    Unbaked Cookies

    Bring to boil:
    2 cups sugar
    1/2 cup milk
    1/2 cup cocoa (powder)
    1/2 cup butter

    Then remove from heat.
    Add:
    3 and 1/2 cups oatmeal (dry/not cooked)
1/2 cup peanut butter (smooth) - we use Skippys brand as it seems to work the best

Stir well. Drop by spoonful on greaseproof paper (on a cookie sheet) and place in fridge until set and cool.

Triggles do you mean an American cup, or any old cup from my cupboard? And is there a weight equivalent for the ingredients?

An american cup, sorry. But I would say if you used, for example a coffee cup - the same one for all the measurements - it would work fine, as the measuring would be consistent.

I love the Bero recipes - simple to do and very economical if you stick the original recipes...although its relatively cheap to add some flavouring if you want to ring the changes :)

My best one has to be shortbread - 8oz very soft butter, 8oz plain flour, 4oz cornflour and 4oz icing sugar. .

I made these last night and they were beautiful. I have a quick question though, I used the last of my icing sugar so wondered if it could be substituted with sugar. I'm sure it can but would be unsure of the quantity to use?
