Building a computer!

My only advice is to expect some niggly problems. If you can POST and install windows then you're pretty much done.
I always find it difficult to seat the RAM correctly the first time round. Set aside a few hours and take your time

Just a quick one. Pretty sure your motherboard will come with a couple of SATA cables.

when i built my current pc my mobo came with 1 sata cable, id forgotten that i needed the cables so i had to buy some at a later date, i didnt check the specs so it might have been listed there that it would come with 1 sata, also £7 for sata cable is a bit pricey, you getting the sata cable as its dayglo orange0 -
The motherboard should come with at least one SATA cable so you shouldn't need to buy another, and the CPU comes with a thermal pad for the heatsink so you can save yourself money by ditching that.0

I used the Antec 900 case for 2 I have built this year ...Well worth the money.
I put quad core Q6600 Slacr chips in and then overclocked .If you enjoy the building it may be where you end up next
It is a decent set up you have ...are you going to stick more RAM in ..64 bit ..could be fun having 8 gig ..0 -
I don't think you should build that PC, I think you should buy the one from Ebuyer below. It offers much more performance and storage for less money. Simply add a graphics card and wireless adaptor of your choice.
PC: £418 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159373
Graphics Card: £26.79 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152936
Wireless adaptor: £15.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/103208
Total comes to £460 including free delivery.
For £8 more (than your build) you get a quad core Intel and twice the HDD space. Oh it also has a card reader.
Ask yourself, is choosing your own case really worth it?0 -
I'd go the Intel route, you can biuld a decent Core 2 system well within your £500 budget
For example I'd go for something like the following spec (note: I've not check for 100% compatility).
For get about the additional gcard, you shouldn't need one unless you're into games. I've included a cheaper case with the door you hate, keep the case of the ground and you wont break it. A better CPU and HHD is included

You'd be better off spending the extra £15 on the Antec 300. It's a better case with better air flow.0
