I'm in a quandry with my ISP - Dunno what to do...

Had a message through from Plusnet this morning saying they won't allow me to switch to their 'non-prioritised unlimited' package without tying me in to 18 months, so it looks like I'll be off to BT with my broadband and phone
Its a shame, because I have enjoyed being with Plusnet (if not their spiralling costs.)0 -

But won't BT tie you into an 18 mth contract? I thought you didn't want that..?If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
Are there any LLU operators on your exchange, if so they're likely to give you the most competitive pricing. Or if you have an o2 mobile, you get a fiver a month off their normal rates, and the service is good in some areas-but unless it's on LLU, don't bother.
It's impossible to make ISP recomendations without knowing what is available on your exchange.
I'm on a rolling mth-to-mth contract with BT (having just come out of the 18 mth contract and looking to switch. Got an O2 mobile (PAYG). How do I find out if O2 broadband is any good in my area? It is on LLU in my area.If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -

I don't want to be tied in with Plusnet... If I move providers I kinda expect to be tied in. You can either opt for a 12 month or 18 month option with BT though.
The thing that annoyed me about Plusnet is, they offered to move me to their unlimited deal, but 'forget' to tell me that that would automatically tie me in for 18 months... Bit naughty I thought!0 -

To find out the details for your exchange, goto 'samknows.com'
Also, look at 'top10-broadband.co.uk' for providers (& what they provide in your area.)0 -

If your exchange is LLU you can get o2 Basic for £7.34 a month. £70 Quidco cashback, free wireless router, free 24/7 tech support, free McAfee security.
You need to top up your PAYG mobile by £10 within each quarter to qualify for the discount. I find the service good though some say that o2 have taken on too many new customers and the service is stretched in places with speeds dropping. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Thanks macman - sounds good to me :cool:If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -

Why??? I cannot understand anyone getting stitched in to long term contracts with ISP's, they can provide any rubbish service and the poor customer can do nothing about it.
Look around, there are plenty of better ISP's than BT, that do not insist on long term contracts.0 -
Then go for the cheapest, since ultimately it is a BT service anyway.
But I'd draw the line at Tiscali...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
