OH shopping contribution has arrived. Sat and worked out that starting from tonight, there are meals to take us through to around 20th Oct (with the gap when we are away covered by when I am on holiday). It's a shame he won't have vegetarian for a few nights because I could stretch out the cupboard stuff - potatoes, rice, pasta etc a few more nights. Still, that's a big chunk of the food for the month covered.

When we go away, it is self catering, I don't mind cooking for 2 nights, but as I expect I'll be in charge of sorting breakfast (normally bread/ham/cheese etc) I don't really want to be doing much cooking - I'm on holiday after all! Saying that though, going out each night will eat away at the holiday money so it's a balancing act between being careful and relaxing.

OK, so I broached the 'swimming' issue.

Advert on TV: woman sitting by swimming pool (Actimel or something similar)

Me: I might go for a swim in the pool at the apartment when we're away
OH: silence whilst focusing on TV
Me: .......I mean.....it will probably be warm enough to heat the pool each day
    OH: what?
Me: when we go away, I might use the swimming pool - we might even be the only people there
OH: silence and back to focusing on TV

Why do you need to broach the subject?

You don't need his permission. If you want to go swimming, then go swimming. If he has a problem, then he can receive the finger - freshly prepared.

  • to be honest, I broached it because I half wondered if I was being a bit unfair in what I said yesterday (albeit true) and wanted to see what his reaction was.

His reaction is always to slyly put you down, while bulling himself up. Then deny/ignore if he's challenged until the challenge goes away. Meanwhile he does nothing unless it is to his clear and sole advantage.

That goes for everything from DIY to parts for your car - to indeed the more social aspects to your "relationship".

In light of that, you can hardly claim to being "unfair"...

    Oh BB :( :grouphug:

This is not normal. Silence? Who the !!!! does he think he is? I have got very real body issues since pregnancy and birth (and there is really only so long you can call it 'baby weight' for  ) and complained to OH about it on the run up to our holiday back in June. I said I'd bought a tankini but still felt too self-conscious. He told me I looked great, and on the day we went to the beach said I was beautiful and should absolutely go in the sea wearing it. THAT is normal. I have about 3 stone to lose. But he still said all that. And what is more, I believe he meant it. Too right he should.

I know we don't chat and I'm not part of the group but I felt an affinity with you and wish so much that I could give you a shake and tell you how much you are worth, and that you would believe it. You more than anyone else on DFW have inspired me and your story has touched me. I just wish, WISH you would free yourself. But at the same time I can understand... it is never that easy. I will be cheering you on regardless.

SWIM on your holiday. I swear to god, no one will be judging you. No one with a heart. Swim, it is beautiful and relaxing and just heavenly on a warm day. You'll love it.
