if she had lost her wallet would she have lost her debit card as well.??. surely she could draw money out of machine.. or phone someone she knew.. sounds fishy to me..0

maybe before credit crunch and before having children(when I had money), depends if the person looked like they would spend it on drugs or drink. I would never open purse if on my own in front of someone, thats just tempting a mugging0

If I thought she was genuine then yes.
I have been approached in the past for £5 from a guy claiming he was over on a business meeting and had lost his wallet he didn't seem genuine so I declined.0 -
really £3 is no big deal compared to their immediate need, I don't mind being cheated0

Before I read all the replies, I would have said yes. I didn't know about this scam and indeed have given people money.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Once in malaga travelling through the airport back to the UK alone, I had checked all of my luggage onto an earlier flight so that I could go off and explore the area before my I left. I had spent most of my euro's in the day to get rid of the currency, and left a euro spare to call home in the case of any changes to my flight so that I could be collected from the airport in the UK.
The phone at the airport ate my money, and when I asked the help desk if they could help me, they said no and directed me to the police station. I went there and explained the sitution, but they refused to let me use their telephone to contact home. I returned to the help desk, where they said that there was nothing they could do to help me. An argument with the desk ensued, I was begging them for some help in order to contact home. I got quite agitated, in the end, a passenger stood and listened to my pleading and handed me a euro to use the telephone. Anyway, my point is that I would never ask anyone for money, whatever situation you find yourself in there should be systems in place to support you, the woman who has had her belongings stolen should have gone to her bank and asked to withdraw some money, failing this, she could explain to the operative on the platform that her possesions had been stolen and give him a copy of the crime number issued by all police upon the report of an incident, I cannot imagine that he would not have allowed her free travel on this occasion.
Anyway, long answer to the question, but as I am fiercly independent, I would exhaust all other avenues before asking a stranger for money, even though I know that lots of people would be more than happy to help - they are only happy to help because they know that you are only asking as you have no other alternative.0 -
I'd buy the ticket.
I've been in a similar situation a number of times with buying tram tickets where the machine wouldn't take notes and I didn't have enough change. People have always been very helpful to me and I've made sure I do the same for others.0 -

Happened to me a few weeks ago when a guy knocked on my door asking for bus money. I gave him £2 which he said he'd give back to me the next day. He even handed me his mobile and said I could keep it until the next day. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and gave him the money and his phone. Never saw him again.
I wouldn't help them. If it was me I'd never ask for money. I'd use reverse charging and call someone to come and get me or help me. If it was that important someone would come.0
