MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you give a stranger £3?

Used to be Treasurer of church in Leeds. The Church secretary told me we had a visitor who needed money for bus ticket to get home to Nottingham, was there enough in the church funds. I was brought up in Notts and after a few words with the visitor realised he didn't know Nottingham that well. So the 3 of us went in my car to Leeds bus station where we bought him a ticket and put him on the Nottingham bus. Our final view of him was of a very miffed looking face at the bus window, first stop Nottingham. Never saw him again, but he got what he asked for.0

People who have said they would go to the counter and buy the ticket themselves - very good idea, I hadn't thought of that.
I don't give money away to stangers asking in the street. Quite often they'll be asking for 20p for their bus fare and I reply that I've no change and suggest that as they're only 20p short then surely they can just get off a stop earlier. They normally respond by telling me to eff off so that says it all really.Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
No, not all beggars come dressed in rags. It's a sad state of our society that there are so many scroungers and con artists these days that the really genuine unfortunates are caught up with all the rest.0

Blimey, I'd hate to bump into some of you if I were in distress!
For those of you telling her to walk, and the lovely person who said it'd teach her a lesson to be more careful in future?! You can get from Ealing to Paddington for £3.70 - that's over 6 miles. I just hope that if ever you need help you don't come across anyone like you.
Yes, I agree that this can be a scam and 95% of the time it probably will be but it isn't always, sometimes someone can genuinely need your help! Have you ever been in that situation? You generally don't think logically as panic sets in and while it's easy to say looking in at the situation that you should approach the station staff or find the police, in the moment your brain tends to just focus on what you need which would be the money to get home.
As it happens I wouldn't give the money, I don't have much myself and so can't really afford it. I would however offer my help, find a staff member or police officer. If they're genuine they'd be grateful and if they weren't they'd scarper, in which case I'd probably go and find someone to let them know what that person was up to.0 -
If a stranger asked I would be hesitent, but if I noticed someone obviously in trouble and as I am a good judge of people I would certainly help them out is'nt that what we are here for, I have done this many times over the years and have some lovely thank you letters from people when they return the money I treasure them and usually for more than £3, I have only been let down once for £20 at heathrow and I honestly believe this was because the man lost my name and address, no I am not naive I've been round the block to many times. i just hope someone would help and mine if the need arose, God what's the world coming if you can't trust someone for £3 nicketliberty12640

Yes I would ... just because I hope, if this would happen to me, someone would also help me out as well.0

I don't need to give my money away to strangers, isn't that what the present government is already doing ?0

This happened to me when we spent a few days away from home in Manchester and we gave them the money. He asked for our address 'to send the money back'. After he had gone we realised it was a scam . We spent the night worrying that he would use the address information for some other purpose.

I would try to help, but I dont think Id hand over the cash to her, I think I would ask what it was for and go and get it for her! :rolleyes:0

NO WAY!!
What is a woman doing with a wallet anyway?
It's a con artist and a transvestite!!!!
What's wrong with a woman using a wallet? I've used one for all of my adult life with a separate little purse for coins. As usual things made for men are far more practical. Also any thief would be sadly disappointed to get the purse as it rarely has more than about £2 in it!0
