The cars are piling up and being stored so it is an obvious bail out if it goes ahead, it probably won't. Desperation if it does to keep people in jobs, no other reason.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

What an odd policy. I can see it improving sales as it has done elsewhere, but one of the reasons we are in a mess is we have too much personal debt. Encouraging someone to buy a new car who probably can ill afford it is wise?? - lets face it if you were able to and could afford it you probably would already have bought one, and at much more discount than £2k. Again the Governement is selecting a sector and supporting it, regardless of all common sense - first banks, now the motor industry. I'd like to know where this £2k comes from - when do we have to pay it back in the form of taxes?

If cars were a reasonable price this would not be necessary. If the Government ever had a serious green policy on motoring then they are now showing their true colours!!

Answer: When the tories take power. Aint that right!

Everything I tried to say but was too furious :o
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I dont think it should be any different, but it is.

For all these people who think they are going to get £2k off a brand new car & support jobs...

What they are likely to get is a car manufactured 2 years ago that has been parked up near the M5 in Bristol....

Saying that though, at least the balance of trade to the manufacturer will enable them to build more cars.... to park up for another 2 years...

The unintended consequences of this scheme will be huge, as will the frauds of course.

Massive distortion of the market and perverse incentives. I wonder how many 'spivs' have been out buying bangers for £100 cash-in-hand over Easter, ready for some arbitrage with the V5.

If peeps go for this, isn't the massive depreciation just another stealth tax.

maybe they should give every graduate a 2k credit so they can add a car loan to the massive amount of debt accrued from student loans? Im struggling to see whos going to fill the market.

This is all very convenient, as of course, the Conservatives will have to tax the hell out of driving so that we meet our emissions targets we have promised to the EU otherwise we are going to see the hammer of taxation shatter society to bits.

Typical incompetant corrupt labour, in the pockets of their big business friends.

The scheme is being proposed by the car industry. The government appears to be about to say no to the scheme. Please check the facts before frothing.

Not to mention the DVLA having to hire an additional 100 staff to get rid of the backlog of 500,000 V5's that have appeared late from people who have "forgot" to send them off for the car they bought in March 2008!

So, no money to save MG Rover but shed loads to fund a new Merc.

    Priceless!

If UK had come up with idea, the EEC would have cried 'Unfair competition'.

Do you have a link, please, Rochdale. Haven't seen this anywhere.

PS - I will be disappointed if I can't take advantage of this.

Is it now going to be worth buying a 10 year old car for next to nothing - just to be able to claim the 2k. Or thinking about it, I suppose these cars are going to increase in value overnight. Dumb scheme
