My battle with budgeting - a thread to keep me motivated

  • ok, note to self on current financial situation:

    69p in co-op account :rotfl:

    £18.79 in my purse :D

    £5.43 on electric meter

This has to last me until Tuesday unless the nice Mr Postman brings me my CTC giro.

Should be ok though, not much happening this weekend, eldest is away until Monday, so that will help. Youngest is off to a party today, had a result with buying the present and card the other day. 4 big trucks from Tesco, 75p each! and a card for 24p! So £3.24 for the whole present and luckily had some spare wrapping paper in the cupboard from ages ago..

Weather is horrid again, so will be stuck in the house, going to sort out my bathroom shelves - must be about 50 bottles of various things up there, all half used or never used. If I sort out what we actually have might not have to buy any toiletries for a while :D

Might try and get some more things listed on Ebay as well, stuff I listed yesterday has a few watchers already, so that's good news.

So fingers crossed for the postman, or roll on Tuesday!

Good luck on your budgeting dreamcatcher and at least the big supermarkets are closed tomorrow so cant go and spend in them ;)

  • Thanks YM all support gratefully accepted.

I bet you the supermarkets will be packed today with people "stocking up" as they are shut tomorrow :rotfl:

It always amazes me round Christmas/Easter just how much food people think they will need to get through one day without being able to pop to Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys etc

it amazes me how people will pay extortionate prices for easter eggs when you would get far more choc in a big bar of galaxy for a fraction of the price. all because its egg shaped!!??!!

  • I haven't bought my kids any easter eggs, I think they are a rip off. I might treat them to a bar of chocolate tomorrow if my budget allows but they have all had an egg or two from other people so it won't be the end of their worlds if I don't get them anything.

I hate commercialised holidays like Easter/Christmas/Valentines/Mothers Day etc it's just an excuse for retailers to try and rip off Joe Public.

For Mothers Day this year I gave my 5 year old £2 to go to the secret room at school and she bought me some fancy rubber gloves! lol and a nice homemade card

It was the same at tesco yesterday when we nipped for the eggs... Just imagine if its like that because its easter what it would be like if some major disaster was about to happen? they make me laugh....
Oh I would love an allotment, my step dad has one around the corner from me, he doesnt even live here any more he tells me I can have it and there is no waiting list for them! problem I have is I work full time, have 3 kids bad back and disabled OH, I know 1 kid would help me on it but I feel it would all go wrong. I spoke to OH about me getting one but he really doesnt want me to, tells me to use the tubs and be happy!!
I have the green fingered bug now but I know what I am like I will prob get tired and fed up after 2wk!
I also do lots of home cooking, baking & make alot of clothes I feel like supermom most of the time!
wish there was allotment sharing near us..
  • i was thinking or sectioning off abit of my garden. but would have to be a 6 foot fence as my dogs keep digging up my newly planted flowers in the pots already little !!!!!!s. plus the garden is like a mosh pit already the dogs running about and digging holes has killed all the grass.

Just a thought for us all on a budget but have you heard of Freecycle? Its one of the Yahoo groups and they are based all around the country, you just apply to join your local one. Its basically a way of giving away things that could otherwise end up in landfill. I used it as a way of getting rid of things that I don't need as well, including an old filing cabinet I couldn't even move! All sorts of things are given away on there and you just express an interest, politely of course, to the person posting the Offered item and then wait and see. You can also post Wanteds, useful if you want plants/seedlings - although you do have to have offered something first. All sorts get offered from a set of mismatched glasses to caravans on my local one. You do have to be able to collect items - sometimes a bit of a struggle. Recently I've managed to get a old but still useable Mini Tykes climbing frame for my 3 year old!

Just a thought but might be worth a look?

im already signed up but mostly go on there to read the wanted ads as some people live in dream world i get people in my area asking for wii and psp. with the message saying "i know its a long shot but does anyone have a wii they aint using" lol

i normally look out for things like garden stuff/toys.

havent had the guts to go and collect anything yet.

i get offered loads of crap from people for the kids (mostly people just emptying their houses of the crap)but feel bad saying no as they do look affended when i say no so end up backing down and then shoving it in the shed so think i might just offer it all as a job lot on freecycle
