Is anyone else finding it hard to get the timing right of telling anyone? This might sound mental, and it might be pregnancy hormones making me worry but I really don't want anyone to be upset that we didn't tell them personally/ they found out from other friends etc.:o

It's tricky at the moment as I haven't told work yet, and am friends with a lot of work people on Facebook which is making me reluctant to tell other close friends in case they mention it on FB! I also haven't told my Dad yet as am trying to summon up the courage to tell him, but wouldn't want him to hear it from anyone else. However I know that MIL took a healthy 12 week scan to mean that she could tell everyone (and I mean everyone) she knows, which increases the likelihood of our friends finding out through the grapevine .

Sorry for the anxious rant, but I can't be the only person who has found this........ x x

We told a few people before the 12 weeks, then after that we told people as we saw them and didn't worry about who told others.

our parents and close friends all knew by 8 weeks though.

Everyone knew when i was 5 1/2 weeks i think lol. Far to excited.

I read something yesterday online saying that by 8 weeks the risk of miscarriage is 5% when you've heard the baby's heartbeat. But i haven't heard it yet, doctors haven't done it. So would that 5% apply to me still?

Sorry if its a sensitive subject for some. Im just such a worrier though where this pregnancy is concerned :(

Don't worry about it, it will all be good practice for when you actually have the baby and your aunty pat gets all offended because the next door neighbour knew before she did!

Congrats on the birth of Toby feelie!

It only applies once you have seen the heartbeat hon, because otehrwise how do you know it's there? It's the presence of the HB that reduces the mc risk.

We lost our first baby around 7-8 weeks so we had a private scan at 8 weeks with this one and saw the heart then, so we knew we were as OK as we could be.

Oh, and now I've found this pram and I want it! http://www.mumsnet.com/Reviews/PushchairsTravelSystems/745-silver-cross-linear-sleepover

We told family at 5 weeks, and work (officially) at about 8 weeks: a couple of people in work knew before then.

Mmm just had really nice oven fish for tea (though I think I may have eaten a little bone: felt a little bit chewier at one point!). I think it may soon be time to break out the cinnamon waffle icecream :)

Told folk at 10 weeks, right after we walked out the termination clinic with our second opinion :D There was drama  It's only taken them till now (21 weeks) to get used to it. :rotfl:My Dad will actually speak to me now! My Mum is buying little girl outfits (the fact that it's a girl has helped).

Potatoes boiled off, chicken drumsticks cooled and covered in Raegge Raegge sauce, Italian marinade for chicken made up, kitchen scrubbed. Off to put kids to bed with a DVD because 'if you want a nice party tomorrow, you have to go to bed early with a DVD so that I can get everything ready' DS2 is like this :D DS1 is like this  (plus I want to play with DS2's camera)

We told my Mum and OH's parents at 8 weeks after we had a private scan.

EA- I think the only way to hear the heartbeat that early is with an early scan- I don't think a doctor can pick it up with a doppler before about 14 weeks (but may wrong on that). The 5% (although I've seen it quoted as being as low as 2%) is after a healthy heartbeat has been seen as this shows that at that stage, the foetus is healthy and developing as it should be. Does that make sense, sorry not sure I explained it that well!

If you're thinking of having a private scan I recommend a place in Whitely. It cost us £50 but was worth to for us. They are also giving us a free extra 12 week scan next week as she needs to submit a certain number to keep her registration and apparently no-one pays for the now as you get them free on the NHS! I'll pm you the details of the place if you like.

Oops- others were faster than me in their reply!

You can;t hear it from outside until about 10 weeks I think, and then you need a doppler (I have the Angelsounds one). your MW should listen for you but unless you have a scan right now oyu won;t know if it's there or not, sorry.
