If you think that why not just fit automatic limiters in all cars? Not Again0 -
Seriously, .. i mean geez, if it botherse you that much stop driving?
as for driving full whack and pulling over for 10 mins, i'm assuming thats a joke too
i like to drive fast on the motorway as much as everyone else, however i've got no problems with being caught speeding (as its my own choice to speed) and i've got no problems with average speed cameras, i've had to stop on the side of the motorway inthe past, and theres nothing scarier than having cars pass you at 100+ mph just a few feet away, i feel truely sorry for the workers who have to put up with idiots who don't slow down for them
i'd like to see average speedcameras replace speed bumps, don't know about anyone else but average speed cameras really stop me from speeding, whilst speedbumps and other things just annoy me and make me drive like a lunatic when presented with a insane amount...
also i find it quite statisfying seeing people speed thru average speed cameras as you get that warm feeling inside, that for once they get caught for being an !!!0 -
Can't see why they can't allow motorists with advanced driving skills and say 10yrs+ driving experience to be allowed to go a little quicker on motorways in 'off peak' times - say 90mph. If you aren't capable of driving at that speed in a straight line, you shouldn't be on the road anyway. The govt could charge an extra £1k a year in 'speed tax'. Perhaps restrict it to newer cars with decent brakes... Have some kind of special tax disc recognised by cameras, could be done quite easily and cheaply. I'd happily pay an extra £1-£2k a year more to blast past everyone legally

How could that be Policed though?
How would speed cameras / average speed cameras / traffic Police know who was speeding and who had paid the extra £1-2k per year to be able to drive faster.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

Speeding isn't a serious road safety problem.0 -
I use my GPS reset the trip counter that records average speed as you enter sometimes I have to stop for 10mins on the Hard sholder to get my average down below 50 before exiting the zone.
!!!!!! huggy what a post :mad::mad:. You deserve to be rear ended, your choice of interpretation, for that statement.
Yes, GPS is your friend here, it's suprising how innacurate most car speedos are, so this allows you to make better, and still within the limit, progress.
However don't forget the averaging cameras calculate between any 2 cameras, not the 1st and last or 2 consecutive ones, so beware;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Speeding isn't a serious road safety problem.
It certainly isn't......INAPPROPRIATE speeding is the serious road safety problem.
And those that commit inappropriate speeding usually are inexperienced, lazy selfish drivers with no concept of road safety.
We should be cracking down on poor lane discipline, poor mirror usage, tailgating, drink/drug driving and other examples of poor driving.
The driving test should be made harder and those who drive without insurance, without a licence or already disqualified should recieve a mandatory prison sentence.'' A man who defends himself, has a fool for a client''0 -

Unfortunately none of these things can easily detected by cameras. We need more police on the roads checking drivers. If people saw more police cars on the roads then driving standards would improve. I appreciate the cost implications of this, police forces have not got the money to keep traffic cars on the roads, whereas static cameras pay for themselves many times over.
Perhaps if fines were increased, and means tested so the richer pay more, then we could have more traffic cars on the roads.0 -
Anyone who uses the A14 between the A1 and M11 will realise how easy the traffic flows with the average speed cameras in place, not so many inconsiderate tail gaters just a regular flow of traffic :T"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

Calm down! I do wish there was a touge in cheek smillie. Do you think it is likley that I spend times sitting on hard sholders to slow down my average from 100 to 50?0
