I also took the opportunity to view my creditfile for the free 30 days and it was clear at the time you had to cancel before the term ended or be billed. Was quite suprised not to get hassled when cancelling infact operater was very polite

Ditto to the above, same here

It's also very simple to cancel. When I used the service I searched in the help section, fired off an email and the next day they replied saying no problem. Deal done.

    Lucky You
I signed up for free 30 day trial in Dec 08, checked my file & score, then cancelled by email 1 week later (so I had a record of my canecellation)
Email acknowledged next day "sorry you are thinking of leaving us.. customer service team will be in contact to assist"
1 day later email from customer services giving free phone number to call
CreditExpert now have no record of that call. As far as I am concerned my cancellation was made by email and receipt acknowledged & recorded before the end of 30 day free period
Jan, I get a (promo) reminder that I hadn't checked my report recently and Credit Report Alerts in Feb, Mar & May, which I (mistakenly) assumed were from my free 12month Equifax deal.
On checking CC statement, Credit Expert have taken 6 x £6.99 for Jan to Jun despite my written cancellation in Dec.

Whereas it appears that many here (some of whom are no doubt employees of Experian; it’s usual practice for employees of companies which indulge in snide practices to fight their corner on Internet forums; maybe this explains the threatening PM I received?) are sufficiently devoid of spine / numb to tolerate the kind of practices indulged in by the likes of Experian, it appears that, further to complaints from myself and others, the ASA does not see it this way :D

The ASA report is due to come out any day now. I've known this for a couple of weeks, but the adjudication's been classified up until today. Suffice to say, they upheld the complaint that Experian’s practice of offering a ‘free trial’ obfuscated the fact that the user was actually signing up for a recurring membership. Experian now have to change their advertising campaign, no doubt at somewhat greater cost than they ripped me off for :D

Next time you think about standing up to big business, remember that, in the day of email, it only takes a few minutes to make a complaint to the relevant authority. As the song goes, ‘if you tolerate this, your children will be next’.

    :j:p:D:rotfl:

This is where to see the report when it comes out: http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/adjudications/public/

No. But you're not a government-sanctioned credit checking agency, are you?.

Mate I totally agree with you on this argument and I am probably the biggest anti-cra person on the forum but I have to point out that they are not government sactioned. The reason they are cra's is because 'its the norm' and they applied for and got the correct licences.

There is no 'law' about cra's such as 'to have credit you must agree to cra's storing data' - it is purely common practice to protect the lenders in which case they must adhere to the DPA/CCA etc....

Yes there are staff from Experian on here, I can even tell you a couple of usernames if you really want (probably best not to take me up on that offer) and they are totally anti-people-like-me because the rehearsed speaches you mention get analysed by us lot who then dispel them for the myth/lies that they really are!

CRA's should be closed down, simple.

Out of interest, the ASA's adjudication offers a superb basis for a Group Litigation on behalf of those who feel mislead by Experian's tactic.

If a sufficiently large group of people were to coordinate an action, I'm sure a high-profile lawyer would be prepared to take the case on a No Fee, No Win basis (I have experience in litigation over many years and know some of the sharpest legal minds in the City of London).

The ASA adjudication basically proves Experian stuck their hand in your wallet unfairly. A few hundred people clubbing together would give Experian a very bloody nose.

inter-bank policy as worked for the last 50 years before cra's were fully functional. We never had problems like today pre cra's.

Anyway, so what if people get into debt and take the p!ss - they are allowed to do this, it isn't illegal you know! :p

why? it has absolutely no affect on you, your family, your life, your career, in fact it has nothing to do with you so please claire, help me out a little - why should you bother one iota?

If you care that much then become an MP, fight to become party leader and do something about it!

Sorry but you're posting opinions that have no relevance to the actual point in hand. I hate all the fact we let iraqi's and afghans into the UK but i'm not going on about it all the time. I hate the fact there are spongers claiming benefits they shouldn't have - but I don't go on about it all the time.......
