bought one of these for my dad. it arrived today without any notice, just turned up.
Upon opening the case which i must say is very easy I noticed it had no audio lead from the cd to mainboard and also as it had no floppy they (dell) took out the cradle that holds the floppy/hard drive. Is this normal and if you have one can you check yours.
thanks0 -

yep i would assume both quite normal:
cd audio cable that goes from your cd drive to a header on souncard or motherboard is really a bit dated and doesn't have any real usefulness anymore. the only reason it is there is that cd drives are designed so that they can play music straight to the soundcard which is why there is sometimes a little volume dial. ten years ago this was useful as it meant less work for the processor, but it doesn't matter a bit nowadays.
as for the floppy cage, that is a bit annoying of them, but you should find a mounting kit that will allow you to put one in a 5.25 bay without much difficulty.
it reminds me of the days when dell used to make bespoke cages and drives with extra bits of plastic whacked on the side of them so that when you wanted to upgrade or get something fixed you had to pay them twice the price for a funny shaped drive. now those were the good old days.0 -

If you already have your own operating system, you can sell the Windows XP Home that you get with this system on eBay. It'll be an OEM version, so under eBay regulations you will need to bundle a piece of hardware with it. They seem to go for around £40, but I'm hoping for a couple quid extra for the shiny network card and usb key i'll be throwing in with mine.
Before people start, the part on the XP booklet that says "for sale only with a Dell PC" applies to first hand/ retail sale of the product, a requirement which is fulfilled when you purchase the item from Dell. So long as you are perfectly clear in your listing exactly what it is you are selling (XP CD, COA & Getting Started manual) and state that it came bundled with your new dell but that it was surplus to requirements. Make sure that you sell it on unopened, and you might want to note in your listing that although brand new, it is technically a second hand item as you personally purchased it from dell.
You might want to chuck in the Microsoft Works that comes with the system as well for a few quid more out of your auction.
If you don't have any need of the free gift and plan on selling that ot too I would personally reccommend going for the Webcam as it's a relatively good one that you get and is worth about £20-£25 in ebay terms, probably more than you'd get for the rubbish printer.
All in all, sub-£100 PC anyone?
All well and good if they actually send you an OEM CD. I thinks it's more likely that you will just get a recovery disk. Can anyone who's received their's confirm?0
