I'll second that.
I've just purchased a number of these with XP Pro to upgrade some of the ancient machines in the office. Because I ordered a quantity I had to order through the small business channel so I didn't get the special offers or the 5% discount. I challenged Dell about this yesterday taking the stance that I am a business user (unfortunately not large enough to qualify for a dedicated business manager otherwise a degree of arm twisting would have ensued) spending considerably more with DELL than a typical home user would, so why am I being penalised, but they would not budge "The offer is geared towards the Home user and not for business users" (I spoke to one of their "resolution experts" whatever they are supposed to do) Also because it was a business order I do not have the right to cancel that consumers have. Still, I consider they were a good deal for the price I paid, and did not need monitors as we already have 17" TFT's purchased earlier in the year. How do I add a signature?0 -
Just something I have noticed. On the Dell site when ordering it says the chip is 2.6 CEL 400FSB 128k cache.
Just got my PDF through and its come up as 2.6 CEL 400FSB 256k cache. Don't know if this is a different chip/mistake/typo or what?? sounds better though!

It is better, much better. it has the new prescott core and is now more than a match for AMD's Sempron chips.Val

If you already have your own operating system, you can sell the Windows XP Home that you get with this system on eBay. It'll be an OEM version, so under eBay regulations you will need to bundle a piece of hardware with it. They seem to go for around £40, but I'm hoping for a couple quid extra for the shiny network card and usb key i'll be throwing in with mine.
Before people start, the part on the XP booklet that says "for sale only with a Dell PC" applies to first hand/ retail sale of the product, a requirement which is fulfilled when you purchase the item from Dell. So long as you are perfectly clear in your listing exactly what it is you are selling (XP CD, COA & Getting Started manual) and state that it came bundled with your new dell but that it was surplus to requirements. Make sure that you sell it on unopened, and you might want to note in your listing that although brand new, it is technically a second hand item as you personally purchased it from dell.
You might want to chuck in the Microsoft Works that comes with the system as well for a few quid more out of your auction.
If you don't have any need of the free gift and plan on selling that ot too I would personally reccommend going for the Webcam as it's a relatively good one that you get and is worth about £20-£25 in ebay terms, probably more than you'd get for the rubbish printer.
All in all, sub-£100 PC anyone?0 -
I just finished talking to one of the Indian CS staff and man it was stuggle to explain her....
She doesn't know anything about the free gifts and 5% off then she told me it's only for selected items and she couldn't do anything....
One point she asked me I could cancel my order and re-place another but I replied her that I don't want to go through with same process of diversion and then speak to you again...
Before I put the phone down she asked me IF SHE'D MANAGED TO HELP ME >:( >:( >:(0 -
The licence that comes with Microsoft OEM software on a machine does not allow trasfer of licence between machines, so if you have a valid copy on an old machine you cannot 'legally' transfer it to the new one. You may be able to sell the new licence if you don't click on the agree button when you first startup the dell, but you will still need to peel of the stick off the side of the machine carefully. The licence is the sticker and not the CD!
Lots of people do this and get away with it, but that doesn't mean Microsoft won't start going after people doing this....

Could someone please clarify how MS keeps track of the registration of XP. When I was recently in HK I saw - but did not buy- fake XP packs which all had the same registration key. Is the key not a use once only ?
I have bought two computers each pre-loaded with XP and nver had to register. I assume that I am not entitled to install the XP on a new machine (even if I scrapt the old) but what would physcially stop me ?0 -

Looks like a typo to me. The FSB number is wrong and there isn't a 2.6 Celeron with a 256kb cahe.0 -
Not sure if this still works but you should give it a try....
If you actually READ the Microsoft T&C when you load windows for the first time it states somthing along the lines of: if you do not accept these T&C please click cancel and return software to vendor for a full refund.
At which point you click cancel phone DELL and tell them that after carefully reviewing the T&C you decided you do not agree with Mircrosoft and are going to remove the software from your machine and use linux instead. Please refund me the OEM cost of Windows
Unless Microsoft has changed thier T&C's from XP when it first was released then this is 100% legal.

if you play games, watch tv, video edit, do Design work then you will notice the difference as the Celeron wont function very well when performing these tasks, if at all
A friend of mine got one and uses it for video capture from his camera. He is over the moon at the speed he can now render video.
I agree about the games limitation though.0
