My OH is a huge Beatles fan. Has all their albums, dvds, anthology etc...I bought him the Mono set for his birthday this week. Good job he said he wanted the Mono, I probably would have got the Stereo! I got a bit lost with what he was saying re little nuances, but he thinks its amazing and being a Beatles fan myself...though not a geek like OH...it does indeed sound amazing.

£370 for 13 albums - that's more than £28 per album. Nice way to treat your fans. It is not just the groupies who get...

I pre-ordered them from amazon and got the stereo box set for £138. The sound is excellent, and the packaging is lovely.

I am at a loss as to why the Beatles are continually shoved to the front line in the media.

It seems like the whole city of Liverpool depends on it for its very existence?

As for remastered CDs...why? Just to sell more on the back of the new Xbox(?) Beatles guitar thing?

Lets face it,they have had their day and the only reason why they get wheeled out is to make more money.

Sure they were big in their day but only becuase they were so different from the post war dross.

Sure they wrote some great tunes and they also wrote some crap.

Why buy remastered? Just go down any charity shop or dealer and you could probably lay your hands on some original long playing records to play as they were meant to be played on your record player !

Interestingly The Beatles were largely ignored in Liverpool right through the 1970's and early 1980's.

The fact is that thousands of people come from all of the world (particulalry Japan & USA) to see assorted Beatles landmarks.

On the topic of Liverpool plus Beatles rip-offery, £25 for a couple to enter the Beatles Story in Liverpool Dock - of only one half of that couiple is seriously interested, this is a very pricey way to spend an hour.

    Well let's see:

    1. Back In the USSR
    2. Dear Prudence
    3. Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da
    4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
    5. Blackbird
    6. I Will
    7. Julia
    8. Birthday
    9. Yer Blues
    10. Mother Nature's Son
    11. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey
    12. Helter Skelter
    13. Revolution
    14. Good Night

I'd say that's more than enough good stuff for one album.

They have been remastered because the original transfers onto CD way back in the 80s were absolutely awful, as anyone who has heard one of your charity shop vinyl copies will attest to.

Does this mean that purchasers of those unfit-for-purpose CDs are entitled to a free replacement?

    No? Didn't think so :(

I just listed the very best songs; there are maybe two or three songs that I usually skip.

If it makes you feel vindicated though, George Martin thought they should have selected the best songs and not bothered with the double album.
