Morrisons seem to be selling some remastered titles for just under a tenner, while Bangcd is charging double that! Uncharacteristic of Bangcd, so I assume the Beatles copyright holder [ I used the word for a well know Italian criminal organisation here but MSE blanked it out in the interests of free speech - let's just say M...a ] is sitting on Bangcd's face on this one, just like they sit on Spotify's!

While some of the stuff is good, I think for the time being I'll spend my money on more deserving artists.

The remastered CDs are all under £10 on Bangcd (apart from Past Masters and the White Album, both of which are double-albums).

Why you think the Beatles would be forcing Bangcd to charge twice as much for their albums is beyond me.

Most (if not all) are also under £10 on Amazon... And all are £9.99 on CDWow with free delivery.

Any idea whether stero or mono is best for the new releases?

Surely with most Beatles albums they could have put both versions onto the same CD? Or at least as a two cd set...

I love the Beatles but the record company doesn't half fleece their fans, sometimes. Hopefully they'll end up coming down in price in a few months.

All the Bangcd prices are now showing as normal (mainly £9.99), yesterday there was obviously some glitch. I guess that tApple/EMI/whoever will milk the first tranche for CD sales for this new release before restarting serious negotiations with iTunes/Amazon for individual; track downloads. Everyone knows that a third of the tracks on each Beatles CD don't bear repetitive listening! I consider only 4 or 5 tracks per album worth actually purchasing (with one or two albums excepted).

Wonder what the U.S. prices are like? Do us Brits have to pay more for made-in-UK music than the Yanks?

    They do?

With the possible exception of Please Please Me (which contains a lot of covers), IMHO most of the tracks on their albums are very good.

Certainly, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, the White Album, and Abbey Road are almost uniformly excellent.

Their Best Of collections frequently omit lots of brilliant songs such as It Won't Be Long, I'll Follow the Sun, I'm Looking Through You, No Reply, If I Fell, Any time At All, The Night Before, Another Girl, It's Only Love, I've Just Seen A Face, I'm Looking Through You, Run For Your Life, Taxman, I'm Only Sleeping, She Said She Said, And Your Bird Can Sing, For No One, Got To Get You Into My Life, Getting Better, She's Leaving Home, Lovely Rita, Baby You're A Rich Man, Dear Prudence, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Blackbird, Mother Nature's Son, Helter Skelter, Cry Baby Cry, I Me Mine, I've Got A Feeling, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Oh! Darling, I Want You (She's So Heavy), and You Never Give Me Your Money.

Any of the above would be considered a career-defining classic by any other band; it's a testament to how talented the Beatles were that they're considered filler by some.

They're $12.99 here, which as of writing is about £7.85.

That's just how much CDs cost here though. Remember that people in the US don't get paid in Pound Sterling, so it's a bit more complicated than just looking at the exchange rate.
  • The main issue with The Beatles' back catalogue not being on iTunes isn't Apple or Apple Corps, it is EMI - basically they are desperate as they have lost a number of big acts (Paul McCartney being one of them) but they don't see that they are losing out on huge amounts of revenue. EMI have relented a little what with the release of the Rock Band game with the original recordings, but I wouldn't be surprised if we still don't see any movement on this until the middle of next year.
You don't have to mad to work here, but moo moo quack boing parsnips

Thanks for the feedback! And is that definitely the stereo one you got, not the mono?

I didn't know Paul played the bass guitar until I saw the recent documentaries on BBC2 where he seemed to be playing it all the time in the early days. Who played it later on then?
Actually, Paul McCartney is a damn fine bass player.

The remastered card sleeve albums were £9.50 in Tesco Direct when I went in the other day.
