  • Especially for all NTL, Telewest, other non-BT landline and mobile customers! Due to great demand you can now also benefit from cheap 1899-rates via our dedicated freephone number 0808 170 7474

Its different as you are not with BT so you don't dial 1899 at all :)

Better to have a BT exchange line. BT by the terms of their licence are forced to allow you to use other operators via their exchange lines. This is because they are the dominant operator in the UK.

Other service providers are not classed as such and do not have to allow you to route your calls via other operators.

but i have alreadt got telewest exchange & i have a 1year contract,so i cant change it right now.Should i simply dial my destination no. after dialling 0808 access no.?without dialing 1899 at any time during my call?please help me out!
  • Hi there - it is very easy to use this provider with NTL / cable.

You dial the 0808 access number, wait for the prompt then do just what it says - ie dial your destination number followed by a # - it then tells you how much you will be charged (don't forget to add the 3p call connection charge). Then you gt connected to your number. Had no problems at all with the connection and you can see your call costs online. My calls are local and national, son's are mobile and he assures me that the connection is good (he should know, he has spent enough of my money!!)

It is brilliant and has worked for me (see my other post re my savings, although my circumstances are a bit extreme). I have even set my mum up to use my account - she will pay me when I see her, it helps spin her pension out a bit.

However, I am going back to BT (tomorrow!!) as I am sick to the back teeth of NTL, so from then I will just dial 1899 instead of the 0808 access number. I will also be able to use the 18866 cheapo call service properly on BT and hopefully save a bit more.

    HTH, Stella

I know it's late and I may have rushed reading the above posts, but I take it that you have REGISTERED with 1899 before trying to use the service ?

So let's take this through stage by stage.

You accessed the 1899 site and registered. You would then have received an email from them confirming your details. This can take up to 10 days. Although mine came within a few minutes.

If I remember correctly, to "make it all work", you have to clic where requested on their email and that does two things. 1) it completes registration and 2) takes you to their site.

Once this is done, there should be no problems.

I am assuming and writing this as if you are new to the site and not used 1899 for ANY calls. However, if you've BEEN using 1899 and for the USA call you are experiencing problems, simply write down the intenational code you normally use, followed by the private phone number, making SURE the numbers are correct. Write down 1899 BEFORE all of them. Dial without a break. If then you have no success, I would contact 1899 via the "contact us" section.

You might like to confirm to us that you are able to use 1899 on UK calls.

Have you tried dialling a UK number just to check you are doing it correctly and remembering to put in the entire number including the International codes?

Oops sorry Island_Man, just re-read your post and you have suggested the same.

edit again, sorry Island_Man but the OP is not with BT so would not be dialling 1899.

As the OP is with NTL/Telewest or whatever, he dials an 0800 number INSTEAD of 1899 ;)

As you are with BT, you dial 1899 or 18866.
