Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 7 April 2009. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.

Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning everyone! Hope it's a good day where ever you are :)

Snowy - I hope things work out for you

Reverbe - don't stay away from us too long now.....

It's dry here with us just now, but not so sure how long that's going to last for. The forecast's not good and definitely not clothes drying weather here!

Had a good evening last night, ended up with pizza and salad for tea and I did a couple of hours of studying which was long overdue.

Got a busy day ahead at work, think that's why I woke up early - too many things going on in my brain! Planning on making sausage and mash for tonight's tea as I got 2 Cumberland sausages reduced to clear in the Co-op last night. DH's lunch is a Co-op premium range soup that was 10p!! Also managed to pick up some packs of cooked ham for the dog for 10p each too, so it was a good shop :D

Have a good day everyone, :j

Morning from Cornwall. Looks to eb a nice start to the day and then rain coming in later. The end of the wee looks terrible with plenty of rain. Remember why you used to holiday in Europe?????

Gave the bathroom a freshen up yesterday, painted the ceiling and walls, window. Tiles the window cill, de moulded the grout and tiles, fixed the leaky shower and re silconed here and there. OH bought a new shower curtain, so for £13 all in the bathroom looks pretty good again. I was a bit knackered after all of that... Pity there was nothing on TV to realax with in the evening.

Last day off today, so I shall start to sort out my shed and get another batch of eggs incubating. 4 days to go on the first lot, so waiting for the cheaping to start...

    Have a nice day..

    Morning :hello:

    Candygirl, CONGRATULATIONS :D

Right then, here's my OS list for today -

Put the Dyson away and sweep the carpets.
Turn off the WM and handwash the clothes.
    Squirt vinegar round the taps.
Potter round the greenhouses and check the veg patch for weeds.
The onions are coming through so I need to lift the netting a bit.

And my absolute fave - cos it's MS, OS and green :D - clean out the animals. I use old newspapers (from next door neighbours) and shredded paper (from mr tru's work). When I change it, it goes into the compost bin :D

When it comes to small children, eyes are much, much better than ears ;)

Good morning Nessie, N9eav & all who follow,

The weather here is dry at the moment but I don't think it'll last long enough to dry washing! It poured down all night & I lay awake thinking about DH who was out working in it. He'll be home soon no doubt ready for a cup of tea, a bath & bed.

Still got 2 of the 4 kids off so half of them are lolling around in pajama's & the other half are getting dressed :rotfl:whilst moaning about the unfairness of life!

Twice baked potatoes & beans for tea tonight, I'll be making a soup for lunch this morning with some sandwiches. WM just finishing its 1st of 2 loads, DW emptied & kitchen S&S.

    Tru

    Today's jobs are:
    1. Water all indoor plants
    2. Clean the soap drawer on the WM
    3. Do shopping list for tomorrow.
    4. Wipe woodwork in the kitchen.
    5. Wipe down table & chair legs in kitchen.
    6. Vac & mop downstairs.
    7. Prepare soup for lunch, pots for tea.
    8. Walk dog.

Have a good day everyone ((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))) where needed xxx

    Morning all,

another nice day here, my list for today (which will follow) includes some from yesterday we had such a frantic day, and I think today might be the same .

    1. hoover top to bottom.
    2. mop conservatory, kitchen and bathroom.
    3. clean kitchen and bathroom
4.general tidy through, put washing away etc.
    5. one dark load to wash.
    6. two estate agents coming round to value, so put up with their waffle for an hour
    7. do online shop

There is probably more, but they are the things I must get done.

I went to view a house yesterday, which on paper looked beautiful, it was on a bit of a busy road which put me off a bit, but I went to see it to make my mind up, it was fairly close to the top of our budget.

Well it was filthy , truly disgusting there was swags of cobwebs hanging everywhere, and I could have written my name in the dust ( and mould) on the windows, there was mud trodden into the carpet, and as I walked up the stairs a banister came off in my hand. Now I could cope with all this, and given it a good clean, but the whole place needed extensive work, the three velux windows in the loft room were rotten through, all the skirting boards were a good 1/2 inch away from the walls, and the units in the kitchen were coming away from the walls, i could go on, I kid you not it was terrible, and the woman showed us round herself, I would have been far too embarassed, :o, the least she could have done is hoover through.

Anyway its made me feel really good about my place, and getting it on the market, mine is like a palace compared to that, perhaps I should have left a bottle of stardrops on the doorstep ;)

dd and I ended up having a late lunch yesterday, so we were not hungry at dinner time, so we took little dog out for a walk at 5.30, which was beautiful, walked all along the river, and we ended up eating at 7.30 last night, which was late for us, but I do love these light evenings.

Got the first estate agents coming at 10, so i better get the hoover out  see you all later, have good days xx

    Morning everyone

I've been up since 5 and feel like I've done a days work already. Have got DD, SIL and DGD coming tomorrow and staying overnight, not seen them since xmas, am a weeny bit excited :D

So far this morning I have cleaned the kitchen, it lookes lovely now, think I will suggest a takeaway tonight so it stays nice :rotfl:done some washing, won't hang it out as its been raining and looks like it will again. Ironed a few bits, put away all stuff ironed yesterday and today. Emptied DW and refilled. Cleared up all those hot spots and now everywhere needs a good hoovering and dusting but am running out of time before I have to leave for work.

Tonight will be finishing off the cleaning/clearing and sorting out something for tea tomorrow night. Might give them a ring and see what they fancy. Better make some sort of cake too.

Hope you all have a good day xx

Sorry to hear about your experience Snowy - do beleive in the saying everything happens for a reason though.

No rain here yet but it is expected.

Nothing much planned for today - need to put some time in in the office & do more ironing. Didnt too much yesterday as had to pick up DD from southend & I forgot how bad the traffic is on a nice sunny day.

Looks sunny enough here at the moment but I think it is to rain later.
    Day 2 of my hols:D .
    Plansa for today:
    1. buy rollers and brushes
    2. start painting bedroom
    3. make soup
    4. walk dogs

Think that will do me nicely for the day. Might remember to drop off the charity shop bag if shop is open. I plan to get the brushes etc early and have a feeling that the charity shops don't open until 10.

I started reading Lark Rise to Candleford last night (ordered from the library) and if anyone is looking for easy, descriptive reading, then it's fab. It is an autobiography (or part, at least) and has interesting descriptions in chapter 1 about 'poor people's houses' or something like that. They certainly worked hard!
Another library book which caught my eye is 'No Waste like Home' by Penney Poyzer. Haven't started it yet but obviously about cutting down waste at home (hhhmmm front cover says 'Get wise to waste -help the planet, improve your health and boost your wealth'. I don't think I'm wasteful but I'm sure there will be plenty to get me thinking.
Ther other 2 library books are a Patricia Cornwell and Sepulchre by Kate Mosse. Have never read anything by her.
So....very OS of me getting all these books instead of buying. I use the library a lot and am always sad to hear of libraries closing down.
Ok, off to get another cup of tea - I'm using a lovely china cup and saucer this morning:)- and a little browse but then I'm going to get cracking - honest :p
Hope everyone has a good day

Hiya, quiet day for me am off back to the hospital this afternoon and I am going back to bed in a bit as OH is here as it was easier for him to come here rather than go home and come back later.
O/S I am going to be cleaning the kitchen with stardrops and the guinea pigs cage needs moving and cleaning.

I'm also on day 2 of school hols:j I am in my absolute element - pottering around at home, washing, ironing, cooking, sewing, gardening, dog walking. I LOVE IT! It reminds me of when I was a SAHM when the children were little. I never, ever wanted to work and was soooo content to be an OS family. Unfortunately, divorce got in the way and I had to go out to work, but was very lucky to get a job as a teaching asst at the local school, so was still able to collect kids and be at home with them without needing any childcare. Now they are older of course and time at home is now 'me' time.

Budget went severely out of the window yesterday:eek: as had to buy a new washing machine. Mine is almost 15 years old and clothes are coming out smelling mouldy. It is being delivered on Thursday so am amassing a washing mountain ready to product-test:rotfl: May even push the boat out and get all the nets down:rotfl:

I have my house on the market as DD and I were hoping to move nearer to her school (and release some of the capital for school fees:eek:)but unfortunately, the value of this house has now dropped below what I paid for it 5 years ago, so it looks like we may have to stay here for another few years yet. Any ideas how to raise £10,000 a year without too much pain?

DD is on a sleepover tonight so am on my tod for dinner. Will just do something simple like jackets and salad. Doesn't look like BBQ weather right now - or line-drying weather:rotfl:
    Have a good day everyone.
