It might be worth asking at the school.
It's going back a bit but my school use to have a tuck shop that was open 30 mins before school started and it was run by a few of the children and a couple of teachers.
Also in the summer some high schools have programs where younger kids go and learn / play. If his school have a similar thing they might let him get involved in that for a few pounds.

A friend who is a self employed plasterer (sp!) says he may have the odd day for him helping, just running about for him, sweeping mixing etc.

If that works out, it could be really good. The down side of current school leaving age is that there are few opportunities to see and participate in real work.
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

When i was 13, my main income came from internet Forums.

Dealing on eBay, selling high, buying low.

Simple as that, I used to make a good £60 a week from just 2 eBay sales, much better than the £16 a week my mate was getting paid for doing a paper round on Saturday AND Sunday.......

My advice would be go for electronic products, thats where i used to find most of my money.

You are supposed to be over 18 to have an eBay account.. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/newtoebay/RegisterTerms.html

I worked after school and weekends since I was 12... starting out in a warehouse for high street clothing, didn't do me any harm.

By the time I finished school I had a 3 page CV, and I have never been rejected for a job I've applied for since I turned 15.

It's a shame young people today wouldn't be able to do the same, work experience is so valuable.

  • My 13-year-old niece comes round at weekends to do ironing, clean the car, hoover - basically anything I can't squeeze in between working two job over 6/7 days!

She usually does the work on Sat so she can get her 'wages' and go into town with her pals.

I think it's great she is learning the value of money early on, saves money for her single mam and saves me a load of time.

When I was 14/15 I worked on a playscheme in school holidays. Had to get a day off to collect my GCSE results. Got paid £1.80 an hour to look after kids not much younger than me.

Don't think it would be allowed now. It was 1994/95.

Employment is hard to find for 13 year olds, so this is a good age to encourage enterprise. Two teenagers in our street do dog walking, lawnmowing and car washing. They make a nice little sum and it encourages a good community spirit.

They take a little less money from me for the lawn and the car because I have a full size trampoline and as long as I'm in I let them have a go on that whenever they want!
Self employed and loving it :D
